Daedric Metal

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:03 pm

I've had this question for quite a while; what exactly is Daedric armours and weaponry made out of? I know they're metal but is there any lore on the metal or materials themselves? I've always been curious but haven't found any books on them at all in the game; granted I've only played Oblivion and Skyrim (looking for a Morrowind PC game).

Read "Heavy Armor Forging" to get a functional answer: Ebony with a daedra heart.

This is a certain book on it, but I can't remember. It's primarily ebony, and you're supposed to forge it only at night, preferrably with a full moon, never with an eclipse, and at the right moment, throw a daedra heart into the forge.

Ebony corrupted by the soul of a Daedra

According to the lore, you can hear the trapped Daedra from the armor whispering.

I was wondering about that. I was under the impression that Daedric armor and weapons were created on the Planes of Oblivion. All the Dremora wear it. A Conjurer outfits himself with it by summoning and binding creatures from Oblivion in its form. I guess now we know.

I figured it was ebony infused with a daedric heart from the look and the Markarth smith asking for a heart. What made me curious was how Ebony and Daedric didn't look anywhere close to each other in terms of material in Morrowind or Oblivion so it made me question it. Now I'm wondering what if hearts from the daedra in the different Oblivion planes made something different; but this is the assumption that the Daedric hearts are specifically from the Dremora, which I believe are primarily on Mehrunes Dagon's plane.

It would be amazing if wearing daedric armor in the game actually made you hear indistinct whispering and screams of pain. I think a lot of players might decide that ebony offers "good enough" protection.
