Daggerfall Covenant potentially boring?

Post » Fri Jun 28, 2013 4:27 pm

I've been thinking about what alliance I will be joining and the Daggerfall Covenant seemed most likely due to me playing Bretons.

Now I've been looking at screenshots, and it seems to me that the land that belongs to the DC is far too familiar compared to the real world, am I the only one who kinda thinks this?

I mean look at the other factions by comparison they all have gorgeous mystical lands (Morrowind looking best so far IMO) The DC not so much.

Everyone has their own tastes but I think the Alki'r Desert is really great looking.

I suppose you're right, but some people prefer familiar environments. I'd play it for the Alik'r alone.

Then level to 50 and play the other zones.

If your mentality is more universal, then the other 2 factions will be just as boding as DC when they get to DC areas.... so does it matter at all?

Well for most the endgame comes to Cyrodiil where the fight will be in the same land for all alliances. But then again they will probably have each sides homelands within Cyrodiil having their home world theme and keep with their racial appearances

I'm gonna play Daggerfall Covenant, because of Bretons and Redguards which are both specialists at what they do. I like the background and cultural traditions of the Redguards and I like the personality and traits of the Bretons. But I really really love dense and spooky forests as well so I'm definately gonna visit Valenwood and Black Marsh. Especially after reading: The 'Argonian account' series and 'A dance in Fire' series. Let's just hope they do Valenwood a bit of justice, because we still haven't seen much of it, if anything at all.

Well, I know that screenshot, but with all the shallow water and dead trees, I allways took it for being Black Marsh. I have this picture of Valenwood in my mind as a more 'alive' forest. But still dense and dark at some points.

Weird. I don't really have any strong stereotypes for any of the human ES races, other than Nords are racist, stupid and anti-magic, Thanks, Skyrim! So I'm at a bit of a loss with the idea that Bretons and Redguards are in any way 'specialized,' or how that would impact on class or crafting professions. I'm locked into DC because there are so many options and the DC members have the potential to be anything, rather than locked into the sad little elf or animal stereotypes that characterize the other factions.

So Valenwood can't have a swampy section to it?

Bretons: The most talented mages in all of Tamriel (apart from maybe Altmer), can absorb magicka, are generally quite intelligent and are expert diplomats and merchants. Quite good alchemists as well.

Redguards: The most naturally talented warriors in all of Tamriel. Great sailors, swordman and excellent athlets. They are free spirits, are born for battle and even have a 'trial' before a boy becomes a man, similar to the Spartans. Good smiths.

Nords: Fearless and powerful warriors, mighty resistance to the cold, stubborn and fierce. Good smiths.

Something like this seems to do each of them justice.

Well maybe. Could very well be possible, but from what I've read in the 'A dance in Fire' it didn't really seem to. And the dead trees seem to be a little bit out of place for Valenwood. But never 100% sure of course.

Could be that it's corrupted area of Valenwood also. There are tons of possibilities.

I agree. I actually hope it will be nice and varied in stead of just the same generic areas all over.

I'm sure ZeniMax aren't scrubs to think that they should have every land in each zone look like each other.
