Daggers, For what use ?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 7:37 pm

What's the point of having daggers if they aren't affected by the one-handed skill ? Now i'm lvl 50 and my swords do 5 more time damage than my two pathetic daggers, and i wonder what can i kill at this level with a weapon dealing no more than 55 dmg :o
At first i was thinking that daggers were focused on stealthy vicious strikes, but now even my swords perform better backstab. So i'm using them as fork and knife when it's time to cook some raw food.
I'm sick of playing masterchef, let me kill some more with this weapons !

Agreed, in Oblivion, I felt the daggers went along with my mage and they did well throughout till i get alot of magic and didn't need any melee weapons cause i killed them in two seconds anyways..... But in Skyrim i'd like to see daggers be put to more use because when your fighting a dragon with ....daggers..... you get the point

I had thought the sneak perk for daggers was where it was at. I am a sword and shield man myself so i've never tested the theory.

This. One of the perks (can't remember which) combined with the Black Brotherhood gloves can give you a 30x critical sneak attack with daggers.

Daggers are not effected with one handed weapon skill? Where do I read this? I but 2X in the perk for 1 handed held weapons. I thought for sure my Orish Daggers are doing more damage now than they were before I put the 2X into the one handed perk.

It says on my loading screen from time to time that Daggers are considered 1 handed weapons and my 1 handed skill goes up when I use them. Plus I have a glass Dagger that does almost as much damage as a glass long sword. Its like 7-10 points lower but that's expected. It's a lot higher than it was before leveling up 1handed.

The OP is wrong. Daggers ARE effected by the One Handed skill.

Potential 30x damage with sneak?

Get the 15x damage for daggers in the sneak tree, and then a piece of apparel such as gloves that have back stab. There's a HIGHLY effective stealth weapon right there.

Really all daggers are used for is, if you have the sneak skill to do 15x more sneak damage with daggers., my level 50 character is a master sneak and unless im fighting dragons, all i do is sneak and use my dagger, seeing it does the most damage with sneak.

Dude, as others have said, they are impacted. MY guess is that Bethesda wanted to allow you to build your character with whatever loadout you wanted, so no weapon class would be penalized, the quicker weapons have lower damage, but probably comparable DPS. If you swing a warhammer, all other things equal, it does about twice the damage or so as a dagger/sword, but swings at half the rate. anything else comes in from how you build perks, but as several other posters have already said, they are included in one-handed

lay off the skooma, buddy

what are you talking about? Daggers do level your one hand skill! My glass mace has 72 damage and my glass dagger does 63 damage. And that's without the 15X multiplier perk.
