Daggers! Viable?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 5:58 pm

Ok so I am playing an assassin stealth based character & I am loving it but one thing I wanna know is, when it gets onto fighting harder battles later in the game you think I should just use daggers for stealth openers & then once the fight starts switch to dual swords or axes for eg? What are your thought please guys and particularly those with stealth based chars :)

Cheers

Daggers use hardly any stamina, and are the fastest weapons, if you have weapons with proc effects on you may want to keep the daggers out, larger weapons are slower and use more stamina and being heavier reduce your carrying capacity far more too.

Your opener should be a bow; haven't tried dagger/shield combo for finishing- check it out,

Daggers are very fast, and are great for quickly afflicting an enemy with poisons. Also, the x15 damage multiplier perk for Stealth dagger attacks unlocks fairly early (it only requires 50 Sneak). With that perk, even a crappy iron dagger will do over 100 HP of damage. Add poisons, GOOD daggers, and the damage increase you get if you are skilled in the One-Handed skill, and you could easily knock off 200 HP immediately as an opener.

I've been using dual swords until I can get the assassins blade perk. Once I get that I will use daggers for sneak attacks only most likely. I didn't see much difference in swinging dual swords vs. dual daggers as far as speed goes. I tried it right in the beginning. I'll have to check it out again. Does anyone know if your sneak attack will let you use both daggers, netting you 15x damage per dagger??

Anybody has any idea concerning weapon range dagger vs. sword? Since several posters Claim that you cannot Level up Speed I'm a Bit concerned with getting out of range of stronger enemies ... Pardon the orthography, my mobile devices spell checker went mad a few weeks ago :(

They are. If you kill an enemy with the Sneak attack of a dagger no will will hear, even sleeping people in the same room or guards right outside the door. Bonus!

I am. It works wonders. My trick:

-If I'm out of range and can't get a close up dagger backstab, I use the range bow 'n arrow

-If I'm able to and I'm close up I go for the dual dagger backstab

Using that (almost). For "open" melee fights I use bare hands (Khajit melee bonus; not skilled in any weapon skill yet, so that should do more damage so far). So far I use daggers for openers only, when I can't/don't want to use the bow. But yes, they're rather viable and the stealth opener perks are very useful (even the 3x bow damage).

but once the opener is over and there is a couple of bandits for e.g, are daggers strong enough to go face to face in a fight please? or best to switch to sword/shield?
i wanna try and run the full game with dual daggers!!

also does anyone know, how far we can actually go in the skill trees please? i mean is it possible to max a couple of them out? as there is no 'maximum level' i assume so eh?

But what's better guys: Dual Wield daggers, or Dagger + Shield? (for stealth/thief gameplay, not berserker gameplay)

I'm doing dual daggers and archery. Daggers swing faster than swords and consume much less stamina. Plus they just look cooler, IMO.

I've been going health/stam 50/50. Not using any magic though.

After almost getting stabbed and slashed to death repeatedly with a flurry of fast dagger blows from some dungeon dwellers, I started wondering whether I should try daggers. With my shield and war axe I felt like a fat, drunk dude trying to win a fight against Bruce Lee :).

I am loving dual daggers tbh! Have to get deeper in sneak tree to get full benefit as well also I recommend joining dark brotherhood ASAP for cool armor and stealthy advantages :)

I have a necklace (or something) with +40 magicka on it, which is useful because I picked up the Muffle spell earlier, which makes you quieter. (Muffle costs like 127 mana, so I haven't used points in Magicka yet, but can still get the benefit of Muffle :P) It makes it easier to get in and stab someone while sneaking.

Dual daggers are my main weapon of choice. Sometimes in battle if I get frustrated though I'll change up to a shortsword.

This is an interesting build. Imagine using the extra speed perk in 1 handed mastery tree. while dual weilding them. i cant imagine.

You must of missed the damage multiplayer on a dagger sneak attack vs the damage multiplayer on a bow sneak attack.

I'm all stealth with illusion magic.

The rule is be very careful and use everything you have because you don't get 8 backstabs in the same fight easily.

It svcks daggers don't have a buff in the one-handed perk tree.

:-( I find the DB armor to be quite ugly, although I do like the mage version of it. Seeing it kind of makes me want to make a DB mage...but magic just doesn't seem stealthy to me.
