Damage Threshold in New Vegas?

Post » Wed Jan 05, 2011 11:36 pm

Sorry if this question has already been asked but is there going to be a damage threshold in New vegas like there was in Fallout 1 and 2.

Thanks :fallout:

damage threshold?

Instead of damage resistance where damage is reduced. Damage threshold is where your armor just subtracts a certain amount of damage from the attack, so protective armors like power armor can make you completely invulnerable to low damage weapons.

And thanks for the yes

damage threshold?

The armor you are wearing current damage threshhold is 10. You get shot with a pistol with base damage of 15. You take 5 damage.

Least that's how I understand it. If I'm wrong somebody feel free to correct me.

Edit: Redgar beat me to it. :P

No. You got it correct. There is a small ammount of damage that will allways get through though, I don't remeber how much though. Also, DR is still in the game files and a metric in the GECK so you can play with all these numbers if you're on PC and want to change them up.

The way I read about damage is that armor has a minimum damage of 20 percent. If you have a damage threshold of 50 and you get shot for a damage of 80, then you lose 30 hit points. However if you have damage threshold of 50 and you get shot for damage of 50, you would lose 10 hit points for the minimum 20 percent. You cannot ever get shot and take no damage. This seems odd to me because this means that a BB gun can damage power armor, but Josh Sawyer commented on one of the interviews that this was deliberate to prevent the game from being too easy at the later levels.

Thanks for all the feedback i'm really glad this is back in the game because in Fallout 3 I hated how even in power armor you still took like 75% damage. I mean it's like 5 inch thick steel plates.

I wonder if in GECK you can use a mix of DR and DT. That would be more complex but lead to better damage system I bet, or at least more variety.

That'll be one of the first mods I make. I understand the reason they did that but I still don't like it. You should be invulnerable to all lower level weapons while wearing power armor. Pretty much the only thing you should have to worry about is energy weapons and miniguns, and maybe missile launchers. You should be able to go back to the areas you started in and walk through and waste raiders right and left at your leisure. If power armor is common then I'll also reduce its availability so that it is a big deal when you get PA, like it was in Fallout 1 and 2.

Hopefully it will be better, you need resistance in vats so deathclaws don't run up to you an kill you when you can't move, but i think it was a bit to much.

I thought DR and DT were both used in New Vegas? I know that's the way it was in 1 and 2.

The original plan was for both DR and DT to be used, but they decided to drop DR altogether some time during development. It's still implemented in the engine, you just can't see it and no items grant it, if I understand correctly.

EDIT: So yes, you could make a mod that included both DR and DT at the same time on the same armor, similar to the original games.

Well that's just disappointing... I don't play on PC.

I wish. As of this moment though I can't aford a good gaming PC, seeing as I have around 100 dollars to my name. That and I doubt I would know how to build one and then set up games to run properly. I had a lot of difficulty just getting Fallout 1 and 2 to run on my laptop.

I'm pretty sure some items - not armor items, but chems like Med-X - still grant DR.
