Danger of spoilers including the ending now at DEFCON 1

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 8:55 pm

It has been referenced in other threads, but I just wanted to make a plea to avoid pretty much any social media site's comments threads.

I just narrowly avoided an exchange where I read (the second today) an angry person having been spoiled about the ending of the game, thankfully avoiding the spoiler post presumably below it.

To paraphrase DEFCON 1: The spoilers are out there, including the ending of the game, and some asshats are taking delight at posting them in chat and comment threads.

From this moment I'm reading no comment threads aside of this forum.
I'll visit reputable games sites and reputable youtubers only, but avoiding all comments.

LoneVaultWanderer sums it up better than I can in this angry rant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWc6J8Dq_ys

Sounds reasonable to me.

Of note, everyone do be sure to report any spoilers or leaks posted on this forum and we'll do our best to take care of them as quickly as possible.

I only stick to a couple of forums this one and one with friends and wrestling fans(and I'm the only Fallout fan. It's mostly a wrestling thread). So I'm just going to stay to this forum and that one.

Also some people are just scumbags who want to ruin stuff for other people. People spoiled Halo 5 before it's released to.

Not sure why he's angry honestly, did the leakers force him to see all the spoilery stuff?

Well, potentially that decision will rest in your hands, if he even in the game.

I love reading this Forum. I haven't logged out in, well, months...but, serious question: what is the risk of spoilers like this showing up here? I'm seriously debating to "shut it down", after watching that.

Maybe Gstaff (who presumably knows all the spoilers) could come back as a Moderator for a while, with a band of "leak-nazis" from Beth, and keep us safe!

I feel bad for the Moderators here who HAVE to go and look at things reported as spoilers. What if they don't want to know? Great job, MODS! I hope you get to enjoy the game without knowing too much. Much appreciation for you.

I've heard that people are posting this rampantly on Steam, and I've seen users on other social media sites actually reporting that they're getting PMs with Fallout 4's ending. If you have other accounts (or even your account on here) be careful when you open up your PMs.

I think this forum is pretty good. I myself just posted something that was technically leaked, and asked to have it removed. However, that doesn't mean somebody can't make a troll account and start posting or PMing people. Just be careful with what you read on here and you should be fine.

Even if you were to get this ending.... would you even know it were true? Just my two cents

Actually, it's just the opposite. Defcon 1 is the highest level. It means nuclear war is imminent and our military needs to be ready to respond immediately.

I think they were trying to post spoilers directly to him...

This seems to be an entertainment to some.

oh ok, do Wikipedia have it wrong?
I wasn't sure if the numbers went up or down so I checked there.

4 chans /v/ in general is a very toxic area for any type of game discussion, but now the area is ripe with Fallout 4 spoilers about the ending, I would advise anyone who does visit 4 chan] to be extra weary of any board as 4 chans [censored]-posters are an unpredictable lot, but to avoid /v/ in particular as they're very likely to post spoilers about one of the biggest game of the year in spite of all the fans who love it.

We're almost there guys!

Edit: LOL 4 chan is edited on this board, talk about hilarious!

Well they people should be scrolling a youtube comment section, facebook or twitter and having the game spoiled. Yes no one forced them to scroll down or go to that site but that doesn't excuse people who spoil the game.

I only come here now that I have learned of major spoilers being released. But I am even afraid some troll will make an account on these forums and leak something in the title of a thread.

I might just go Dark on any gaming social media or forums.

Yeah... they really do need a quick-button for that.

Easiest way I can explain (maybe not everyone knows this even,) is to type your post like normal, and then highlight the section of your post you want to put in spoilers. At the upper-left corner of the reply box is the "Special BBCode" button. (Third icon from the left, just to the right of the font selector.) Hit that and then in the drop-down box will be "Spoiler" as one of the selections. After you hit okay, it should automatically update your post.

What I do when I'm posting is just type in

[spoiler]...[/spoiler]

With the text I want hidden between the two tags. Either way works.

I agree with this guy. Sure I allowed myself to be spoiled on some minor points in the game like the perks, the companions, and the achievements, but the big ones? Hell no, I don't want to be spoiled by them. The worst I did was watch a leaked footage of FO4 from the character creation up to the escape from the Vault. I now know what happens in there.

But to leak the end of the game? The. Ending. Of. The. Game?!! Really? Really? It's as bad as the asshats who spoiled the end of the 6th Harry Potter book.

Honestly, really?? What's the point? Why would you spoil the ending of the game for people who've waited seven goddamned years for this? Now those who had been spoiled will never get the rush of excitement as they play through the main quest as they will know exactly what happens.

I can't imagine how Pete Hines is fairing here, knowing that almost every single aspect of the game is being leaked before it's even released. Poor dude's probably having a heart attack now.

The scale of the problem is also so much bigger.

A spoiled 2 hour movie is annoying enough

but a 200 hour game?
