I was just making my way to Falkreath and on my way an Assassin attacked me and had an attempt on my life. After I killed him I read a note he had on him which said

'As Instructed, you are to eliminate [my characters name] by an means necessary. The Black Sacrament has been performed - somebody wants this poor fool dead.

We've already received payment for the contract. Failure is not an option.

This is kinda weird and if someone could explain this to me I'd appreciate it. I have to mention that I helped out that little boy and killed the old lady in the orphanage as requested but I have yet to report back to the kid.

This happened to me too! However, I don't think it relates to the Dark Brotherhood quest-line. I haven't worked on any quests for that faction but I was attacked by the assassin while traveling. I believe it is one of the many random events that happens while exploring and operates separately from the DB quest-line as a random event.

It seemed quite weird as I had plans of joining the Brotherhood later on I figured if this happened they probably wouldn't accept me

They would actually.this actually happens when you kill someone and a relative of that person is alive.When you have a bounty they send a bouncer,but if that person is dead and a relative of theirs is alive,they will send the DB after you.Funny if you ask me.Makes it more realistic
