Dark Brotherhood - ''Innocence Lost'' Bug

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 2:29 pm

Hey there, i'm a new member. After 110 hours in the world of Skyrim, i decited to join the Dark Brotherhood, so i took on the ''Innocence lost'' quest. I travelled to Rifter, and went to the orphanage, but the door requiered a key to open. I loaded the game again 2 times, but i'm still having this problem. Can you help me, please.... i don't know what else to do, i have 4 save files and i have tried the 2 of them. If someone knows something, or has a tip, i would appreciate that. Thanks a lot!

Did you talk to the kid in Windhelm first? He might have a key for you.

Otherwise, try waiting a few days in another location (like Whiterun) and come back during the day.

On a pc you can unlock any door with the console.

Open the console with the ` key (left of the 1)
Click the door with your mouse.
type "unlock"
Hit enter.
Exit the console with the ` key.

Maybe a stupid question but I've got to ask: Did the quest actually start after talking to the kid? Maybe you missed a dialog option?

Irrellevant. You should be able to go into the orphanage any time.

To the OP, try waiting a few IG hours, and if that doesn't work, try leaving the city and coming back a few days later.

That's not how you spell irrelevant. Pay more attention to the squiggly red lines under words as you type. Even if the rest of your statement were true, it wouldn't make the question irrelevant. Quests and quest items are tied to scripts that can alter the game world.

True, but you can go into the orphanage at any time, whether you have talked to the boy or not. The only thing I have not tried is talking to him, but not long enough to get the quest. However, if the door is unlocked if you don't talk to him, and unlocked if you get the quest, it suggests a bug, not a feature.

I don't disagree. My thinking though is that the bug is somehow associated with scripts for that particular quest. An easy experiment would be to start a forked save and start the quest, then go investigate the orphanage again.
