Dark Elf Last Name

Post » Thu Aug 02, 2012 7:16 pm

Hey guys,

I'm creating a new character to suit the Mage role. I have named the character Braelyn, but I want to add a last name. What is a typical Dark Elf last name?

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dunmer_Names#Dunmer_Family_Names's a list which contains family names, among others.

Edit: Edited to link directly to the last names.

The Great Houses are always a safe bet. It's not quite as original as the name generator might be, but it you're RPing a Dunmer mage then it would make sense to call yourself a Telvanni.

He doesn't have to be part of the Telvanni family to be in the House. And he keeps whatever last name he used to have after joining. See http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Brelyna_Maryon and many Telvanni (and other GH) members in Morrowind (even the player character).

I'm not so sure about that.

Spoiler
There's a quest involving a person who turns out to be the last heir of House Telvanni. So that house doesn't really seem to exist any more.

This is off topic but I was wondering if this would be a good name for an Orc. Oricai shabal. Any more ideas?
And on topic saroth sounds like a good last name.

Or try the Tamriel Rebuilt name generator mentioned above.

A good name for an Orc would be [first name] Gro/Gra - [surname]. For example Orin Gro-Shod.

On topic, the UESP has a list of all dunmer family names that you could look at.

I have a feeling that isn't completely true. I mean, his dad figured he was the last one, but who's to say other Telvanni didn't survive? Some of those guys were practically demigods, like Divayth Fyr.

True enough, it's just what I usually do. I don't often play as a Dunmer, so I guess I haven't thought it through as much :/

Derp, totally forgot about that. Good thing my character is a Dres :)

I always found it funny how they never mention Dres, even though the Dres were larger slaveholders, lead slaving missions, and defended slavery far more than the Telvanni ever did.

But was he wasn't actually Telvanni. He was in the house, but not the family (hence his surname is "Fyr." And yes, there is no doubt in my mind that he lives to this day in his giant mushroom tower, just as oblivious to the crap that's going on now as he was to the Nerevarine.

Well, in Morrowind the Dres didn't really have a presence, so that probably made a difference. Also, from what I gathered in "A Game at Dinner," the Dres are not a family you want to PO, so it would make sense that nobody really talked [censored] about them.

Brand-Shei wasn't in the family, either. His surname was Tenvanni, not Telvanni.

They didn't in Vvardenfell, but they had a huge presence in mainland Morrowind. In fact, their holdings were most of the stuff along Black Marsh. I'm just surprised there's no word about them being wiped out.

"gro-" for men, "gra-" for women. It means "son" or "daughter". Some Orcs seem to have their father's/mother's name after that gro-/gra-, but I've also seen the name of the stronghold they're from. I created a (female) character named Durza gra-Durbag.

My Dunmer is called Medea Selarys. In both cases, I've used that list of names on UESP (well, not Medea, of course, that's from Greek mythology, but I thought it could pass for a Dunmer name).

This. And there's probably more of them around. I could bet most of the high-rank members are still kicking.

That might be a misspelling... but it could also be true. Gives that quest a tone of "fridge depression".

You don't have to have a Great Houses name, in your name. To be a member of a Great House.

Divayth Fyr

Baladas Demnevanni

Master Aryon

Mistress Dratha

Mistress Therana

Are all apart of the Telvanni Grand Council; and none of them have Telvanni in their name.

Also I doubt some of the most powerful Wizards would be destroyed just like that.

As for Brand Shei, imo I believe he is a descendant of Tonas Telvani a gondolier in Tel Mora.

Back on topic. There are people that use a Great House Name within their name. Mainly Great House Hlaalu, Great House Indoril and Great House Dagoth.

For example:

King Hlaalu Helseth

Indoril Nerevar

Voryn Dagoth/ Dagoth Ur

Dagoth Gares

Sotha Sil (Was a member of House Sotha)

Falanu Hlaalu
