Hi makatak, i got a copy of DM again after our discussion the other day.
On the issue that it is linear I found that, because I already expected it to be linear, i played the game in a hack n slash fashion with little strategy or stealth eg diablo. I actually found it to be really cool and the combat was still fun. But if we were to argue the openess of the game, yeah, i still absolutely hate it for being too linear.
Although there are issues like sometimes you'd expected to have successfully slash the orc but didnt, and sometimes you could have sworn you're far away enough to not get hit but got it. Then also after a while activating the different slash option by pushing the left/right keys can be a bit frustrating. The stealth was ok as it depends on that circle on your crosshair, much like skyrim's eye.
Also things like previously mentioned, a bit buggy in different areas, rooftop maneuvering was clumsy, things gets repetitive, AIs get stuck behind doors etc etc. All those flaws are still there. However, its quite an old game and its not like they've patched it every 6 months, so i won't be judging dishonored based on DM. And I've just watched the debut trailer! FREAKING AWESOME! roof tops, hiding around corners, diving down to a backstab and everything! How can you completely compare that to DM!!!
Take a look at ARX, then take a look at how far they've progressed with DM. Now, Arkane has been given near complete freedom by bethesda to develop games that they intended, i'll expect they will surpass a lot of expectations. Lol, i sound like i'm trying to force you to like DM, but my objective is to give guys something to think about.
Furthermore, years ago during the development of ARX, i remember sending in tons of suggesstions to Ralf and his team, and I found a lot of it has ended up being implemented into the game. So just based on this (and their other projects) i have a strong faith they WILL be listening to our requests.
Oops was i on topic? - ok so, Dark messiah - cool fighting system, bit repetitive. bit buggy, things should be better in Dishonored.
