Dark Souls Discussion Thread #20

I'm sure this is common knowledge to most of you, but farming giant leeches in the blighttown swamps has been a beauty for getting enough shards to level any basic weapon you want to +10.

in a couple of hours I picked up 30 large titanite shards and 45 green titanite shards (which i then gave 15 to frampt for 75 regular titanite shards. also netted 60,000 souls in the process. now i have a few +10 weapons to tinker with!

i think i'm going to do another run tonight, wish i had known being human and having 10 humanity points helped for farming, guess i'll see if it makes a big difference for this second run.

what armor do you STR based warriors tend to use? i've been using the stone knight set since i picked it up, great defense but it is quite big and slow moving. I haven't bothered upgrading any of the other armors, but i'm curious if I should consider something else. (noting that I'm just at Sen's Fortress for the first time)

That's a good tank armor you've got, but Havel's Armor is better... also, if you have the Gold Serpent Ring, use that too when you farm. Ps you don't have to be human... it doesn't help you with farming. The Ring and 10 humanity is all you can use.

Thanks for the tip, i've seen Havel's armor on the wiki, but i'm not far enough in the game yet to access it. i believe I'll get access to the gold serpent ring once i go a bit further into sens' fortress

good to know that you don't have to be human to benefit for farming. that makes me feel better as I spent 30 minutes farming with 10 humanity and did notice a slight bump in drops, but forgot to reverse hollow... so i won't have to waste an extra humanity.

The ring makes the biggest difference imo, highly suggest snagging that before doing any major farming, it will save you much time.

Like Vals said, get the ring first before you go on a farming hunt. Also, the ring and 1 humanity is the ticket to success... add 9 more and you're golden.

I just got the Artorias of the Abyss DLC on my Xbox and I found myself with a love/hate relationship with Artorias. I respect him for kicking my ass.

I'd love them if I could repair them.

I like the crystal path too and I just use items that I can get multiple of. I have a Crystal Gladiator build that uses Crystal battle axes, Caestuses, and Halberds.

Btw, has anyone else ever noticed that in the Great Hollow, when you are jumping off that ladder to get to the first bonfire if you just jump down when you land you get 400 souls? It happens to me every time I do it.

It is fairly common for the [censored] frogs to jump off and kill themselves. They usually give 400 souls iirc.

The frogs in Dark Souls are probably more horrible than mudcrabs. I was scared [censored]less when they started chasing me down in the Depths area. Poison, creepy monsters, confusing map. Ugh!

Anyway, I'm contemplating starting a new playthrough. I haven't played Dark Souls since I beat it in late 2011. I want to play a sorcerer class, I think. I've only been a warrior in Dark Souls, so it'll be completely new for me. Is it fun being a sorcerer?

With the Great Sword of Moonlight and the new spells in Artorias of the Abyss, it's pretty damn fun to be a sorcerer.

Next time you are in the hollow jump off that very first laddr though near the first bonfire and see if you get 400 souls too.

Speaking of, I didn't realize how freaking easy it is to farm Twinkling Titanite once you get through The Great Hallow. Having that golden serpent ring and 10 humanity practically guarantees a drop!

Yeah, it happens every time.

Crystal Lizards always drop two Twinkling. Always. There's a total of 10 Lizards in the Hollow, which gauratees you 20 Twinkling.
It's random if they drop other chunks.

Meant the clams at the Sea of Ash. Crystal Lizard hunting at the Great Hollow makes me feel too uneasy.

Yeah, the clams drop Twinkling quite a bit.
The clams outside Seath's fog gate are a good place to farm them (after killing Seath) because a bonfire is right there.

This is where I farm them, I always get at least one each time, decent souls on the side too.

They are pretty easy to get to and kill.
Check a youtube video guide, there's a few out there that show how to find all 10 lizards.

The most annoying part is getting them to appear. They spawn randomly, unlike the other lizards in the game, so you usually have to quit/load a few times.

It's worth it though, as I occasionally get a Titanite Slab drop from one of them.
