Darker Caves?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 4:17 am

I find the caves in Dawnguard to be darker than in normal Skyrim. Like I fell down a water fall into a cave in the Vale, but it was so dark I couldn't see anything with mage light and a torch. How do you people see in these cave? Help an adventure out before he takes an arrow to the knee...

I used Vampire Sight, if your Khajiit you can use Night eye. Try dual wielding magelight. If not use clayroviance it should show the path.

Well I was exploring. So clayroviance wouldn't work. I'm on my Orc warrior, so I can't dual wield and night eye might cost to much magic points. I really want to explore this cave. It is the one linked to a magic gate and you can fall into it with a water fall entry way. It is is Darkfalls something or other i think.

Brightness WAY up
Just kidding. Torch helps, magelight or any other spells that give off light, or what the other guy said.
Sneaking through those caves are more fun.

I use Night-Eye so often that I should just have a permanent enchantment on my helmet like in Oblivion. But yes, use Night-Eye or Mage-Light.

I personally can't stand it. It makes everything blend in too much and I can't gauge the light levels in certain areas. But in those caves, it was a lifesaver.

Even with it on the majority of those caves were really dark.

I hope they get darker, though I admit, it was scary seeing all those friggin spiders just waiting for me...

They weren't too bad with nighteye. I was just happy because I was assured I wouldn't run into a random bright spot.

After I cleared out a certain I cave, I saw there was another section but I couldnt see how to get there, I spent 10 minutes with a magelight spell in both hands spamming balls of light everywhere...

I know the dungeon your talking about, and I had the same fear.

I noticed a lack of light in Dawnguard too, but actually enjoyed it. First time I've had to increase the brightness on my game.

This is a fantastic addition, it's a shame they didn't add many 'suprises' in the dark areas (i.e. falmer jumping out), but I haven't looked everywhere yet.

its so annoying trying to get through these on any non kahjiit/vampire/mage character, warriors are basically screwed because even the basic light spells will take most of your magicka away and then there is the torch which only gives you a little bubble of light and it takes up your shield slot and of course your fighting falmer which means you need all the protection you can get. Honestly i don't think these darker caves add anything to the game and if i wanted to be in a dark creepy place i'll play dead space where it actually works. the only advice i can offer is just take it slowly with a torch not much you can do about it as a warrior.

Yup. My warrior put away the torch as soon as enemies detected me, leaving him to swing in the general direction of the red dots on the compass. Not the most effective way to win a fight.

Lol, i found that place hilarious. One of my friends is an Arachnophobe, so i specifically saved at the spot right in front of the rushing water with spiders, then loaded it up for him later and showed him it. He [censored] freaked when he saw the spiders drop down from the ceiling into the water right behind me, lol. Bethesda sure does have a twisted sense of humor sometimes, you know they had to of specifically planned to give Arachnophobes a heart attack with that, lol.

Why do people use magelight? I have never once found it to be useful. Candlelight costs less magic and follows you. :/

I am guessing that it increases detection of your character. If you're trying to sneak having a bright blue light above your head might not be the most efficient tactic.

I was hoping for some proper dark, scary caves in Skyrim. The sort where you had to use a torch or else wander through total blackness with eerie noises somewhere in the dark. I was to be disappointed :(

With graphics as crappy as they are on Xbox, just turn the brightness up. It eliminates those weird blacks pots everywhere. Microsoft really is useless. Correction they've a use - to be a pain!

Fist off I don't know what's wrong with your graphics on your Xbox but mine looks just fine. Only a little bit below that of PC running on base settings
Even with the brightness turned up I still have to use a torch in caves now, I like the sly addition of " darker caves " to the DLC. Hope they keep adding surprises in the next DLC.
