Daud’s powers. Why no tethering?

Post » Mon May 27, 2013 2:11 pm

I for one was a bit upset that we didn’t get tethering as an available power. That’s probably due to balancing problems, but still it was part of the lore, and we even saw Daud using it in the basic game. Plus it’s whirlwind in reverse, which is highly symbolic. :)

Also do you think Blink is Transversal? Transversals are described a bit differently, so some fans speculate, that Transversals should allow to go to any place imagined, not only to visible ones, like Blink.

I think tethering would cause quite a few balance issues, although it could have some use in stunning your opponents and then using that period to either kill them or escape. Having said that, I would really like to Brigmore Witches implement in some way with a few more powers, since Knife of Dunwall was a little lacking in that respect.

Transversal is definitely related to blink, despite the obvious differences. I can't think how it would be implemented in the game though, unless they invent some sort of mind-reading Oculus Rift...

New powers would be nice. Getting more powers is always nice! :D

Especially since I didn't use half of them in the DLC. I just could not bring myself to summon assassins in fight. They often died and i felt bad about it - they had names and personality and talked and everything... And sending so many of your followers to death felt wrong. I summoned them for company though, to hear their dialogue.

To be honest in the main campaign tethering didn't do much good for Daud, at least on normal difficulty. I just hit him, when he brought me near enough. But it'll be fun to "tether" objects. I'd like to be able to pick up oil tanks while staying perched on the roof or something like that. Oh, and lifting guards from the ground would be fun too.

No, I don't think that doing transversals as they are described is possible in-game. Just curious about others' opinions.

What of tethering could be used to pull whale oil tanks onto targets below (high chaos only obviously), or even pull guards off platforms?

Make it happen Arkane!

Also it could allow you to place mines from big distance. Or at least move already placed ones.

That might make the player a bit TOO powerful, although I do agree with picking up deployed mines.

Maybe. But to think of it - logically dropping mines from above should be possible even without special powers.

Still yes, that's all an issue of balance.

But I'd like to get something under the name, if only just for the sake of lore consistence.
