Daud Versus Corvo

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 11:43 pm

I don't think much of Daud.

If I spare him, it's because I figure he has five bullets in him, and he's toast anyway.
My favorite fate for him was not even to let him beg... I just fed him to rats, like I prefer to do the Lord Regent.

I don't understand the argument that's come up that can be summed up as "Daud is just a killer, Corvo's goals are more noble".

Are they now?

He is killing his malefactors and saving his favourite girl. That is it. Revenge and protection of a close one. He's not trying to "make a difference", if anyone it's the loyalist who actually think about what they're trying to achieve. Corvo is a tool, he's never displayed an idea of his own, he's just following orders. Except for the last missions where there's no-one to give him orders so his only goal is to save Emily.

Not only that, some people's Corvo is a mindless, violent killer, who would kill the only friend he's ever had and who saved him because he dared to disapprove of Corvo's actions and make things a tiny bit more difficult for him. Or he would doom dozens of poorer Dunwall residents to death in exchange for a rune.

The game was intentionally made so that you had a choice in how your character behaves, but this also means that it's a little pointless to argue "Corvo is nobler than Daud" because Corvo's personality is all in your head.

So Daud wins by default by your logic? Seems to make the thread rather unbalanced...

All I've said was that the way I imagine Corvo to be makes him a better character in my eyes than Daud. I've also extrapolated in my head about Daud's character, because the game leaves plenty of details about him to be filled in as well. Does that make my opinion about him pointless too?

That depends on how exactly you phrase and interpret the question.

If you're comparing these characters' personalities, then I'm afraid your Corvo probably wins by default because you have CREATED him to be interesting, probably way cooler than Daud could ever be, and my Corvo loses by default, because in my eyes he has no personality. That's why I had my doubts about whether the question is even relevant. What does the answer mean if each person is comparing different sets of characteristics?

Now, if the exact question was "which character do you prefer to play as?" that would shift the discussion a little in the direction of our personal preference of a fleshed out voiced character over a silent protagonist or vice versa. We wouldn't be comparing real or imagined personalities that require certain assumptions to be made (e.g. that we are talking about low chaos Corvo), only our tastes.

Damn that's a hard vote to cast... when essentially they are two sides of the same thing...

I was hoping to play as a female assassin in the new DLC. Lost opportunities...

I haven't finished the DLC yet, but I'm gonna go ahead and vote Daud. What can I say, I love that he's a person, as opposed to the dummy Corvo was.

I'm not sure I liked the empress enough to care... &--#62;_&--#62;

What annoys me is that Daud is portrayed as the weaker character in the main game, what with him being defeated by Corvo and having to beg for his life. He is more badass in my mind.

I prefer Daud. He's a complex, disturbed character, and IMO his style is cooler: less magic, more assassin. I love his wrist bow and choking grenades. Oh, and I wish they added the slow time to Corvo's blink as well .

DEFINITELY Daud.
For the reasons that Corvo is basically an empty shell, and for the low chaos playthroughs...
I don't know. I thought that being a low chaos Corvo would be nicer, but when I was at the last level as Daud... well, it's a bit of a...
Spoiler

...and when I played as Daud in the high chaos route? I felt way more awesome then Corvo, because every time I planned a big kill, I thought to myself, 'What would Daud, the killer of an Empress, do?'
Not to mention his magic sight thingy was way better then the heart, to me, and his Blink was way cooler for me, and the double jump was more like just a prolonged single jump, which felt more realistic, if a little floaty. XD
But, I like Corvo a lot too. I guess if he had more vocals and if he had more of a backround, then I would like him better. I just felt that Daud was cooler, more bold, and as we all know, the boldest measures are the safest coolest.
Just my 2 cents.

Also, I find it funny how Corvo, the *cough* good guy *cough*, has his allies betray him.
Daud, an assassin for much longer then Corvo, has his allies stick with him. Karma turned a blind... eye? I suppose.
Hopefully not much of a spoiler... it doesn't seem like one

Well then, I could just imagine Daud turning around, not facing... the opponent... looking at the ground. At sword. He mumbles an apology, and turns around quickly, decapitating the opponent.
Solution for everything, so I don't feel bad

i have to go with daud, for obvious reasons

- Package as an assassin is more appealing for my playstyle
- voice and character is present
- blink is crazy. i mean.. its beyond amazing

corvo's mask is pretty BADASS tho

call me crazy, but it feels like corvo's just the "side story" of Dauds destiny.. because, u know, the whole delilah stuf etc. theese are kind of "biggers things", which go deep into the outsider etc. (i dont get this options.. do I have to put the spoiler button upon it?!)

sorry if i do spoil here :/
