Are there going to be some major compatibility issues with mods?

I wonder if someone with Dawnguard could quickly hook up a custom crossbow mod and see if it works on non-dawnguard setups.

The question is: does the PC version have the same bugs as the xbox? They've had an extended period to ensure a quality PC release.

I have awaited this moment since the Xbox Beta. I can't wait to get it in the CK fast enough and start working playing with that Castle.

Omg please replace the throne in the main hall to be more epic like Dracula from Castlevania's throne room and or other cool stuff and release it

Ha! I'm afraid you will be waiting a long time for me, my friend. I am very...very...slow. Plus I tend to spend hrs and even days on something only to scrap it and start over because I don't like it for some reason.

Make a [REQ] thread for it. Besides, I promise there will be floods of mods for altering the Castle by very talented modders.

Over at DC, I responded to your post about wanting to know the file structure. I attached a dump of the directory from BSA extraction.

I guess the CK needs to be updated. I get a mess of errors and then the CK crashes if I try to load Dawnguard.ESM. Happen to anyone else? My CK has been especially ornery so I'm just wanting to confirm...

Nevermind. I just forgot to move the STRINGS to the strings directory. :)

I would say they probably fixed at least some of the bugs...then again you never know .

Well, disregard what I said about the CK crashing. I just needed to install the STRINGS files into the strings directory... I didn't merge the other folders yet because I want to deal with it as cleanly as possible, i.e. BAIN.

Though there was already a CK downgrade when they pushed a newer version (by accident?) that had some issues. So maybe they'll still be updating the CK soon...

I tried with a clean install of Skyrim, HD textures, Dawnguard and Creation Kit and I also get the...

Assert File: C:\_Skyrim\Code\TESV\TES Shared\misc\BGSLocalizedString.cpp
Line: 1566
LOCALIZATION: Error opening or reading strings file.

...followed by a crash.

Hmmm. I just tried to open the CK with Skyrim, Update and Dawnguard...it crashed....

I am downloading the CK again. I assumed that it would be the latest version, but that may not be the case?

Extract the BSA and, at a minimum, merge the strings folder. I get a ton of other errors but I haven't merged in the /scripts and other directories... wanting to BAINify everything.

Well, I'm not a BAIN man, I'm afraid. So, I guess I shall wait until they release an update for it....too bad for Mr 5.

An update isn't going to fix it, you need the STRINGS files outside of the BSA for the CK to load the ESM without crashing. My comments about BAIN were just my own personal housekeeping issues. I don't want to irrevocably merge the DLC BSA with the rest of my installation. Anyway, merge the /strings folder, and likely the /scripts folder too. The meshes and textures merge with other vanilla subdirectories and may even replace files so I'm not merging those until I check it out in BAIN.

ya know, I totally ignored this post when I saw it an hour ago because I figured it was just someone being stupid. I sincerely apologize.

...That said, I'm terrified of what my mods will be doing to Dawnguard when it launches. I'd try it on vanilla first but I've deleted all my vanilla characters, haha. Here's hoping SkyRe doesn't do anything to terrible to it :P

An update isn't going to fix it,
But...It has to. The CK should be able to load all three current esm files.

EDIT : Right?

Try adding Dawnguard.bsa to SkyrimEditor.ini's [Archive] sArchiveList or sResourceArchiveList?

There is, of course, always the disturbing possibility, that Dawnguard might not be intended to be viewable with the CK, as a matter of policy. But I would find that somewhat disappointing. Possibly a good indication might be, whether Dawnguard script sources are made available. I assume they are not included with the BSA file, in which case they would probably have to be included with a CK update, perhaps together with loose STRINGS files, if Bethesda wishes to support modding on Dawnguard.

Dawnguard script sources are not part of the BSA. However, I can view all of the ESM data just fine.

Wow...I didn't think about that. Surely that would not be the case...huh? If so, then it would be a crushing blow to yours truly. The only reason I downloaded it for the PC was to change some stuff.
