Yeah, think this idea might be a little "discussed and dismissed."

Online play isn't much of a possibility though a regular A.I. Arena sounds pretty cool.

No and no. I do not want any sort of online multiplayer in my Elder Scrolls games.

If bethesda can pull off an elder scrolls game like Borderlands did, then I might consider giving multiplayer a try in TES, either that or put an arena in, or put "contested" forts where people join a side in the civil war and just fight over the forts. it would have made things a bit more interesting, but for the single player experience this would not have done since there's a huge difference between the armors of most people. I'm not exactly sure how it would work, though. some players don't have badass armor that gives 300% mana regen, or x type spells have a reduced mana cost of 100%. which I gotta admit is kind of cheap to be honest.

People could just use cheat gear or console commands to kill anybody, If they disabled console commands (Which they could in arena mode) how about cheaters?
They'd need to focus on them more then DLC/Patches.
In other words, no! This would be a terrible idea.

Just wait until The Elder Scrolls Online comes out. Perhaps it will have some sort of mode where you can go head to head against other players.

PvP mode? Most MMO's have that, I'm pretty damn sure ESO is going to have it.

If you want to get technical Vanilla Skyrim has (had) an arena in its programming its just not PvP.

If they don't I'm sure many would be disappointed.

ESO is suposed to have an entire province (cyrodiil) as a battlefield for pure pvp, so you can imagine. And there will be arenas.
