Dawngaurd for PC

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 9:49 am

I'm really getting a little peed off with Bethesda selling out to Microsoft again after they did it with Fallout New Vegas, why can't every Publisher and studio just release it to everyone at the same time, anyway wouldn't it be more advantageous to release it to PC first to kink out all the problems.

Microsoft pays them top dollar to delay content and act as a marketing arm for the Xbox brand.

Did you know the Morrowind for the Xbox is the best Morrowind experience?

That's an actual Beth statement from Game Informer. Nevermind the hundreds of unfixed bugs between the PC version with community patch + latest official patch and the Xbox version, or the mouse-centric UI.

Don't forget bugfixes. Sony actually paid to have EA delay bugfixes too. It's hilarious really, since console BF3 is a poor imitation of the real game on half the maps. I guess it's the only way they can compete.

See, here's the problem with this. It's not actually competition. It's bribery to artificially worsen competitors platforms. In business ethics that's called anti-competitive practices, and outside of video games it's taken very seriously. I wonder what would happen if a few thousand gamers wrote complaints to the FTC and EU Trade Commission. Microsoft was fined millions in the past over Windows, and some of the practices mentioned in those suits are very, very similar (paying or otherwise incentivizing software devs to delay or cancel Mac and Linux versions).

I'd be ashamed if Valve stooped to Microsoft's level. They don't need to use underhanded tricks, they have an objectively superior product with a better pricing model.

I nearly typed "hurrr," but in the interest of not getting banned I'll take this post seriously.

Microsoft has been actively trying to kill Windows gaming for years because they can't control it / make profit off of every game sale as a middleman. They've spent millions of dollars paying developers to avoid PC or at the very least delay their content. Just because it's a Microsoft platform doesn't mean Microsoft wants it around.

It's not like 360 where if Microsoft sees a developer trying to release a free DLC they can go "ooh shinies," go between the gamer and developer, and then slap a price tag on it like they did for Left 4 Dead. They can't scam PC players into paying $50 a year for peer to peer (mostly) multiplayer, and they can't force them to waste money on some arbitrary point system either.

You know. That whole TF2 and L4D business? It makes that post about "how come Steam doesn't take care of their customers" really ironic. I guess MS takes great care of 360 owners, if you consider forcing them to pay for free DLC "taking care of."

I dont understand why people are so upset. PC players get a vastly better version of the game, and playstation players are always on ( not specifically anyone on this forum) about the superiority of ps3 to xbox.

So then Microsoft did the smart thing to do in business and gave their product something to offer in return, however minor. It's hardly underhanded to think about giving your customers something. And hey, at least as a Microsoft customer, me and my friends can lend each other games, thereby opening one another's eyes to new series without blowing loads of money. Well, for now. Sounds like they are going to start tying games to specific consoles. Gee, wonder where THAT underhanded tactic came from. Valve is hardly spotless.

But Microsoft didn't give their customers anything, not unless all 360 owners are petty children who enjoy having something first.

Dawnguard is released on 360. Which means it's considered (by Beth) a finished product. 360 owners did not get anything early (maybe a couple days to allow Beth extra release scheduling). Everyone else is getting it late. This whole "early" business is just marketing that an annoying number of people have bought into. And yes, it is underhanded. The government considers it underhanded in regular software, so why is it suddenly 100% kosher when dealing with video games?

And Valve sure didn't invent CD-keys ... Those came around a really long time ago.

well I think most people would agree however that xbox skyrim> ps3 skyrim seeing how the ps3 version lags and freezes alot especially before patch 1.4 the game was unplayable I mean it used to be that us ps3 players would have better graphics and xbox better stability but after patch 1.4 we get poor draw distance, low res textures in menus, low res dragons (I mean dragons that look like they belong in morrowind that's how low res they are) so basically now we get a somewhat stable game with worse graphics but exclusives games and such I agree with ps3>xbox

But it's released now. Which means it's finished. Why would you get it 30 days later? And what marketing is there for me to even buy into? What major company is running around spouting "Dawnguard is late for us not early for them!"?

Face it, without the Microsoft bribes Dawnguard would have launched at the same or a couple of days (3-4) later, only for everybody. Gold got you nothing but a mandatory update to add advertising to the Dashboard.

I could never really understand any degree of console squabbling. There's differences sure but they're pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. I suppose Sony behaves better, but only slightly. Then again they copied a lot of their dirty tricks (paying off EA to delay patches + DLC for BF3) only after MS put them to use.

What? nothing you said makes sense, So are you saying I shouldnt buy dlc when it appears on the marketplace if some people cannot get it? I dont see some of the best hours ive had in skyrim as 'advertisment'.
