I do believe that they are suppose to stop. They have for my first character to take through the Vamp side and complete it, destroying the dawnguard. So have the vamp attacks for that character as well. Quite honestly it makes me sad. I wish I had access to a toggle for both sides so I cant keep them attacking! I loved the spontaneous action :D

Wow you destroy the dawnguard and they stop attacking you.... I'm shocked usually destorying an organization doesn't actually stop them from attacking you in a bethesda game.

Yea :(
On this play-through I'll beholding onto the "destroy the dawnguard" quest for some time. I like running into them :D Such an entertaining bunch. I also have the bow which I have yet to test, but I'm guessing that if I blot out the sun for a day then that might spur on some Vamp attacks. Just a theory, but I'll let you know how that one goes.

I love it, no organization means no more Dawnguard attacks just like no more Dark Brotherhood means no more assassin attacks.

Your surprised that after you destroy their headquarters, mind you their only base of operations throughout Skyrim, that they stop attacking? Thats just common sense to me.

I don't think this is true. I am positive I have been attacked atleast over 10 times around Skyrim by the Dawnguard after destroying their headquarters. I havn't been attacked at Castle Volikhar since then though.

I've been attacked by the 3 random Dawnguard NPCs in the wilderness after having completed the Destroy the Dawnguard quest. The quest objective is to kill the 'leaders', although you have to kill 8 NPCs in the castle iirc. The quest giver will also warn you that the Dawnguard will not be completely destroyed, so it makes sense that there are still some random ones who are pissed at you.

My Vampire Lord never really used the "fight on the ground like the beasts do" option

...

Until I cleared out the Dawnguard base of operations.

I purposely saved Isran for last, and my last hit on him was the Bite Power Attack.

That was a satisfying battle.

been nearly 2 in game months since i finished DG, vampire side... and yesterday i got jumped by a group of DG hunters. they forget what they were supposed to be doing? i dont fast travel at all, maybe thats why? oh well whie im here i should ask. I get maybe 2-3 various encounters when travelling from lets say solitude to whiterun, thats maybe a few wolves, a crazy mage or spiders... thats alot of walking/running with hardly anything going on...combat wise.. and from what i have read and heard from people that fast travel, you get many more encounters?

If you fast travel to locations you will often get an encounter. Fast traveling to just outside a city (the stables) will often spawn a dragon (either hostile or a non-hostile fly by) or a trio of DG, etc. But if you run to your destination you'll experience a lot more varied encounters at the spawn points along roads and throughout the wilderness. There's a huge amount of spawn points and possible encounters in Skyrim.

Yep, I am dealing with more DG attacks now since I've maxed my vampire perks. I killed Isran and all his bunch some time back. I rarely fast travel now because I meet more NPCs (Dawnguard and Volkihar vamp enemies) on the roads who my vampire lord feels need to be fed from. Still figuring out how to assign vamp abilities to hot keys. That doesn't seem possible so gotta keep hitting the Favourites key.

Here's something ironic...despite siding with the vampires, I barely see any of the hostile ones in the wilderness. All I see are the Dawnguard. They attack me in the smaller villages, outside my house, the wilderness...
And they're always killed by something or someone other than me. Like guards, or my horse. Or my wife. Or my housecarl. Or my kids.

Worst vampire hunters ever...

On the flipside, do vampire attacks still happen once you kill Harkon and his whole castle while siding with the Dawnguard? I read that when you blot out the sun there's a chance of a vampire attack happening, but I haven't seen them at all. Does that only work if you sided with the vampires against the Dawnguard, or can vampire attacks still happen if you blot out the sun?

I sided with the Dawnguard finished the main quest and blotted out the sun and have yet have another vampire attack.

As Harkon vanquisher and now as the Nord gal in charge there at Volkihar Castle, I am running amok in Skyrim blotting out the sun and killing all random spawners like Dawnguard Squads, Volkihar Vampires, Death Hounds, and Gargoyles. I'm probably producing worse bastardry than Lord Harkon had planned to do. lol. I'm seeing all the new spawners, many right after darkening the sun.

I got all my Vampire Perks in one long game session. During and after getting the Perks I'm frequently seeing a lot of spawns of the above villains. Fact is It's more fun in badass Vampire Lord form so I do a lot of switching back and forth. I do like to enter towns in V.L form with my bat followers to frighten the heck out of the townspeople — they get bitten you know and lose health. It's funny to return a few minutes later in human form and it's all like, "hi, how ya doing?" I have to be human to pick up loot and to interact with almost everything except unlocked doors.

I wish I had a hot-key for Revert Form though. I guess I much prefer to "hover" and use my magics on enemies as unsheathing my sword feels so lame now. Indeed the Vampire Lord is overpowered. That ranged Drain Life attack 3-shots even Ancient Dragons and Giants. What I fail to understand is the modesty of my female Vamp Lord form clad in rags and even a bra for crying out loud. And my other problem is I'm unable to get any decent screenies of my V.L. self as camming is so restricted. Haven't tried flycam yet. That's my next "must try'.

Overall, I like this vampire side of Dawnguard. There is plenty of action found by just "hovering" along the roads and killing respawns. I don't like killing regular named NPCs though and slink away. It's weird that I incur a Hold bounty if a I kill a Dawnguard. If I kill all squad members there are no witnesses so no bounty. I would like to know which Jarl it is who is demanding my death as each squad carries his unsigned bounty note.

A downside is the sun doesn't seem to be very harmful, not harmful enough. I also didn't like when I was Alduin slayer and now as Harkon slayer, in typical Bethesda style, there is almost no NPC respect and acknowledgement of my achievements and authority. Why does gamesas leave these aspects unfinished? Laziness? They leave us with a lot of repeating and glitched Radiant quests which I no longer bother with (they're absolutely pointless) — and I've spent too much time in the console ending the broken ones.

Talking about glitches, I now have 7.5 Louis Letrushes near the Whiterun stables, all going "need something?" Isn't Beths interested in fixing this one? They don't seem to harm the game but are possibly lagging the cell.

Dawnguard overall? Love it.

I just finished Dawnguard and haven't played enough past the ending to know if it stops the vampire attacks completely, but from what I've read it's supposed to at least slow them down.

Which would actually be kind of a shame, as it'll make keeping up my stock of vampire dust that much more difficult.

Vampire attacks do continue if you blot out the sun after siding with the Dawnguard! I tested it today, and while it doesn't happen all the time, it happens often enough that you'll have to be prepared. I got them once in Riften, and another time in Solitude and also at the Solitude Mill (was testing). Sometimes it's just three hounds, but usually there's a Master Vampire and a thrall, and maybe a gargoyle too.

I actually wanted them to come mainly because I wanted the option of getting more vampire armour and robes in case I wanted them in the future, but then I realised that regular vampires now wear vampire armour too. I entered Movarth's Lair and every vampire was wearing vampire armour. Oh well, good news on both ends, then - can't complain! :)
