Seem to have already glitched dawnguard after playing it for 45 minutes.

Just finished one of the first quests where you take the bloodstone chalice to redwater den,
I've filled it up and and i'm supposed to return it to Garan Marethi at castle volkihar.. He has
the quest icon above his head but wont allow me to give him this item, he will only talk about
"what is this bloodspring?", right now this is sort of a game breaking glitch. is there a known
work around?
