PC Dawnguard, Can't loot Vampires + no name

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 8:04 pm

I'm going through the first dungeon after starting the DLC and all of the Death Hounds and Vampires have no name and I can't loot them. Anyone else having this problem? Is there a way to fix it?

Only by giving items/actors names will there be rollover text, thus the ability to loot/grab. FormIDs?

Something to test: This would sometimes happen in FO3 (template reliant Supermutants usually) over errant/absent OBND data (Object Bounds). Often, saving, exiting to the main menu, and reloading said save would correct things. Might be worth a try.

I actually tried to open Dawnguard in the CK and some strings are missing then crashed. I don't know why though I just downloaded it through steam, deleted it and re-downloaded it. I'm going to open the BSA and check if they are missing or if they just can't be read for some reason.

Just add Dawnguard.bsa to your SkyrimEditor.ini's [Archive] sResourceArchiveList2 and you'll not need to unpack it.

Alright I'll try that, thank you, even if it doesn't work. If it doesn't I'll post again, if it does, I'll be to busy playing =]

Didn't work. Still no name and can't loot.

You haven't mentioned whether or not you're using mods...if you are, disable all of them and completely uninstall them. This includes removing any loose files floating around in \Data, especially in the Scripts folder. Once you're sure you've scorched and salted the earth so to speak, relaunch Skyrim and see if your Death Hounds and Vampires have names then. If they do and you're interested in still playing with mods / tracking down whichever mod caused the problem, you can start adding mods back into the game one by one until you figure out which one's the culprit.

If you're not using mods, have you tried validating the game cache through Steam? It's a long shot but still worth a try.

Trying that next. I have all my mods on Nexus Mod Manager so I'll have an easy time uninstalling.

Definatly one of my mods. Now just gotta find out which, I just hope it isn't Apocalypse Spells. I think it might be Better Quest Objectives.

Well after turning all my mods off, and then back on one at a time, it is fixed, although none of my mods were the culprit. It just fixed itself. Dawnguard is also no longer highlighted in red in Wrye Bash.

FYI, I was having the same problem as the OP. I disabled all my mods, re-enabled them one by one, and it appears that ASIS was causing the problem for me. I can run Dawnguard just fine with all my mods except this one.

According to Wyre Bash my Dawnguard is missing String localisation files.

I am having the same problem as OP but it is also happening to Draugr. Trying what everyone else has one ie removing all mods and turning them on one by one to see if the helps.

Edit 1: Having deactivated all mods and scripts still same problem.

Edit 2: After adding mods back in one at a time still having this issue. I am not using ASIS so I know that's not causing it.

E£dit 3: Deactivated Dawngaurd.esm made a clean save and then reactivating it seemed to clear up the problem for now. I will report back if something similar happens again.

It seems to be related to ASIS, try updating to 1.33.2

I don't know about the OP but I didn't have ASIS installed when I noticed this. I had the same problem with ASIS before DG so I uninstalled it then. Either way making a clean save seemed to do the trick, well I haven't actually done any DG content on this character yet so we will see how things go.

Beware the necromancer ! lol. I am having this problem on my pc version of Skyrim and I have no mods installed and never have had any. The looting is only a slight annoyance tbh the main problem comes with the fact I can't interact with vampires to begin quest or buy items.

Edit- I narrowed down the issue after some messing around. I have this dlc on my xbox 360 also so I used console codes on my pc to RP an ancient vampire lord character so I used console codes to get all the perks and apparently one breaks the game lol.
