I'm new to this forum but a friend is having an issue with Dawnguard.

She purchased the DLC (on her Xbox 360, obviously), and then attempted to load her latest save. After trying to load the game for a couple of minutes, the Xbox froze.

She re-started the Xbox and tried again, and the same happened. She then tried loading her older games and the same thign happened.

We then removed the DLC and title updates, cleared the cache and restarted the Xbox. We started Skyrim and downloaded the title-update again to get the game "up-to-date".

When attempting to start the same save files then (sans Dawnguard) the loading worked.

We then re-downloaded Dawnguard and started Skyrim.

The same thing happened again - i..e the game froze. Does anyone have any ideas?

FYI: She has a level 81 character in all her saves (she deleted the older ones so couldn't test with a less-developed character).

My saves have a character at level 54 and work fine with Dawnguard although that is on a different console.

Any and all help/comments appreciated.

The game freezes on me frequently after loading Dawn Guard. It usually freezes on the autosaves. I now have to restart the game about once an hour (freezes were an unusual occurrence for me prior to the download). I am on Xbox 360 as well.


I had a low level character running and experienced the same amount of freezing; however, on my high level character, there was both freezing and an ungodly delay in loading times. It made the character unplayable.

On an even scarier note, I rolled up a new character and took it to Bleak Falls Barrow. The puzzle pieces will not activate, thus I cannot proceed with main quest; i.e., no dragons.

I have experienced longer load times and freezes about every 1.5hrs whenever I fast travel or enter a new place. The load screen sits there forever, new tips come up and I can rotate the picture but I've waited several minutes and it never loads. Fortunately, I just power off and get back in and its fine.

I had the exact same thing happen, had to delete A BUNCH of saves. Went back over 20 hours before I found one that worked. It was with a very accomplished character, as well.

Bethesda doesn't have a track record of fixing DLC. Odds are it'll never be resolved. Your friend is probably going to have to delete their saves back to one that works.

Clearing cache, deleting and redownloading the DLC didn't make a difference in my case. Your friend is screwed, welcome to the party.

My game just froze on the loading screen. Every day since I downloaded Dawnguard, my game freezes after 2 hours of play exactly. It's consistent too. Also, it doesn't have to load or autosave, it just freezes no matter what. I was just walking around before and it froze.

Thanks mate we'll give that a go and see what happens...else it's in the lap of the gods I guess.
