Dawnguard dungeon explorations... how do you get around?

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 2:54 pm

I’m curious as to what other people’s experiences are when using the local map for exploration. I don’t know why, but my local map seems to disappear shortly after I’ve already explored an area. Does anyone know why it does this? These Dawnguard dungeons are fairly huge (like the Forgotten Vail) and they look very similar through out. How do you guys find your way around? I'm considering bread crumb trails...

I do use the local map and it works fairly well for me. I have to agree that its very difficult to explore areas such as Soul Cairn, Forgotten Vale, and Darkfall Cave even with the map. Usually I make a mental note of certain areas so I know if I've been there before. After awhile The Forgotten Vale became pretty easy to navigate. Darkfall Cave, however, I don't think I want to try to explore again, lol.

Because the maps are broken I keep an eye out for land marks that I can use to navigate. Like water falls, towers, and ruins. Then I explore in relation to these landmarks so i don't get lost.

The Vale is divided into like 4 key areas. The entrance valley which is mostly void of snow. Second, there is the valley where the Wayshrine of Illumination is located. 3rd, We have the frozen lake where the two dragons and a word wall is located. Last, we have the river path with Falmer huts all over it and it leads to the glacial ravine.

Do you know about the Paragon Gems? You need the Emerald Paragon to find Vol. II. And don't worry, the last Ewer fill is at the end of the area after the Glacial Ravine.

You put it in a pillar and it creates a magic door.

You have to fight all the falmer and work your way to the glacier to get to the the last way shire

Above a waterfall you'll see a second waterfall that feeds a small river that leads to the aformentioned waterfall. To the left of this small river you'll see some ruins and there is a place to put your gems that opens portals with some loot and even some unique items.
