DawnGuard: Level cap Increase?

Post » Tue Jan 22, 2013 10:14 pm

Well as you all know the eagerly anticipated Dawnguard DLC is around the corner for PS3 and PC or out now for XBOX, and as Skyrim as bin out for a good few months now, I'm sure lots of people have reached maximum level, so maybe we can get a few more spaces to level our characters.

The level cap exists because thats the maximum set by levelling all skills to 100. In order to go higher, they'd need to add more skills, which they haven't done. So 81 is still the cap.

The new Vampire/Werewolf perk trees are advanced via feeding rather than levelling and using points, so you can still take them at max level,

I'll also add to this they use no standard perk points either if that wasn't clear from what DevenTarn said - they are completely outside the normal levelling system.

Vampire Lord and Werewolf perk trees are accessible in the specific form only and cannot acces them when human, so they won′t rise your level cap either.

What people don't realize is that this isn't the traditional RPG you see nowadays, where leveling is a huge aspect of the game, which is why they won't increase the level cap. Actually, come to think of it, none of my characters ever made it to level 81. Why? Because it would break the RP, for me at least.

Far to many people view RPG games now as a simple grindfest to later levels for "end game" content. I blame games like WoW for this kind of attitude. 81 levels are more than enough, anyone thinking otherwise has the completely wrong mindset for TES games. TES is about the journey, not the destination.

Oh and yeah there wont ever be a level cap increase without additional core skills being added.

The point of the game isn't to get to the last level its to just play the game. I just happen to enjoy using every skill in game. At one point I realized that the only skills I needed to level left were pickpocket, speech, light-armor, and 2-hand weapons. I decided at that point I might as well just finish them off and did nothing but run around and kill everything with the ebony blade (which derives its damage from one-hand skill) wearing enchanted and upgraded light-armor.

if you want to get past level 81, then keep leveling up and getting arrest while serving jail time, which will slow your skill progression but not stop your leveling up

Unless they introduce new skills increasing the level cap isn't really needed.

How does that allow you to get past 81? Since you don't actually gain progression to the next level until the skill levels, it just resets the skill.

I actually wish the leveling was much, much slower. With new characters, it takes no time at all to reach level 30. That seems kind of stupid.

Opponents such as trolls, bears, sabre cats and wolves should remain challenging for a much longer time. Even giants and dragons pose little challenge past level 20, and that's just wrong.

I've never got a character past level 40, and I have no desire to do so.

...and then, when they are 31 levels higher than the level cap for enemies, they whinge about things being too easy

Dawnguard adds in higher level enemies, so they now scale much higher than just level 50.

Aye, true, but aren't they mostly few and far between?

I had the misfortune of fighting a wounded (and probably downscaled) falmer warmonger. By the divines, when he hit me it HURT  I dont have any characters remotely near level 81 for the record, so my first sentence is indeed speculation and nothing else. So if I'm wrong please correct me!

Yes but you wouldn't be able to use perks for them if your 81.

50 to 55 is about as much as I do. Those last few levels are extremely slow because by then all my major skills are maxxed and it's only the occasional book or minor skill that keeps me moving forward. I have no idea why anyone cares to go to 81 except just to do it. But it's there so people will certainly go for it. However there is no reason it needs to be higher.

The Vampire/Werewolf perk trees?

As pointed out by me and several others, they are outside the normal levelling system. Your current level, whether it be 1 or 81 has no bearing on your ability to get them. They are only accessable in the specific form and are themselves achieved through doing certain actions rather than levelling and aqquiring perk points.
