Dawnguard more fun with a low- or high-level character?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 11:06 pm

I've got a level 44 assassin that I like a lot, but she's so formidable now that I'm losing interest in her. So now I'm considering creating a new character for Dawnguard.

For those playing it, do you think it would be more, or less, fun to tackle it with a low-level character, say level 10 or so, versus using a high-level character? I play on master, for what it's worth.

IMO, it would be better to tackle it as a low-level character. Mostly so that you can use all the new toys you get for the rest of the game. Would kinda svck to get all this new great stuff and not have much left to do with it.

I would say a low/mid character as victor said it allows you to use the new toys for the rest of the game and if its a uber high level character you pretty much done everything.

It is all in personal opinion. I prefer higher level characters and playing on novice so I am like a god compared to my followers and enemies.

Low because
1. all the stuff you get is worthless compared to what i have at my level (81)
2. enemies are level-based, meaning the higher level you are, the higher leveled the enemies are. and Volkihar Master Vampires are a [censored] to kill

Cool, thanks. Funny thing is, my level 44 character was supposed to be my Dawnguard character--created explicitly for that purpose. But then I fell in love with her and played her too much before Dawnguard even came out. 150 hours with her and counting.

New character it is!

I had made a new toon to start Dawnguard. I played to level 10 and started the quest. Once I got VL form, I kind of quit the story line and didn't go back till mid 20's. I played with VL until I maxed the perk tree (very easy at low levels) and then went back to developing my toon. It was fun having VL at low levels and just demolishing everything just because. I am now level 49 and don't use my VL form much, I play an assassin toon and have advanced myself to almost make this game too easy on expert. Between the 20's to 49, I played some of the Dawnguard quest line
Spoiler
where I entered the Soul Cairn. I got the elder scroll along with Arvak, Durnheviir and conjuration books.
but I put it on hold. Been doing lots of random quests. I think it can go either way but if you want something refreshing and new off the bat, I'd do Dawnguard early.

Do you think so? I found that enemies in Skyrim are way underpowered once you reach level 30 or so, I'm not speaking for Dawnguard as I'm waiting for it on PC rather than try to play the crashing, freezing nightmare known as the Xbox version. Once you get some decent perk levels and armour the game really becomes way too easy, as a stealth archer I'm pretty much invincible even on the highest difficulty setting and my character is only level 54, that's not that high compared to some players.

The end game was a cakewalk for me and to be honest a bit of a let down. I honestly think the scaling needs to be increased a lot to compensate for armour and weapon enchantments.

Not just content-wise, but I found it to be a lot funner at a low level.
