Dawnguard Rating?

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 5:49 pm

I know this is a weird question, but what will Dawnguard be rated? I only ask because my account on XBL has failed to upgrade to an advlt account, and I can't figure out how to do that. I have changed the settings, but Rating Pending or things that have no rating won't download on my account. Sometimes Rated Mature things won't download either. I forgot about this issue until just now though, because I don't download things often. So my problem is that I already spent 20 bucks on the MS points on an account that might not be able to download it.

Does anyone know the rating? Or, even better, know how to change my XBL account?

The same as Skyrim I would imagine.

And try going to the Xbox website and going to account settings.

You can't change your XBL account in terms of age.

You could always try calling Xbox support and see what they say... I mean if you are over 17.

It's impossible to change the age setting of your Xbox. I know this for a fact because they had one of those Xbox 101 videos explaining all of it. Xbox did this on purpose so kids couldn't easily change the setting to get access to content that was above their age group. You're going to have to wait until the day of your 17th birthday for it to switch over into an advlt account. You can call Microsoft and ask but I assure you, they will tell you the same thing I just did. Unless you are over the age of 17 and there was a mistake of some sort keeping you under a child account. I don't know if Microsoft would be able to do anything to help you but maybe if you can prove that you're of age perhaps they can manually switch the account setting for you or something like that.

Skyrim is rated M so by default the DLC, which is still a part of the original game, will be rated M for Mature.

I messed up my Xbox account too, but I remember downloading Fable 2 and 3 content on it which are rated M. I think DLC/Ad-Ons are exempt.

I'm guessing 17th because that's the age on the M rated games. You can call Microsoft and ask but I assure you, they will tell you the same thing I just did.

They way he sounded in his original post, it sounds like he is 17 but his account never changed over to an advlt account.

Also, if all else fails and you haven't gotten points yet, make a new account that's over 18, download. All downloads show up across accounts on the Xbox.

Hmm? Why would it matter? The ratings are "recommended" ratings not bound by law, a 3 year old could still buy it in a store.

Not technically, if your under 17 and buying M rated game you have to be with a parent or guardian... if they sell it to you while your under 17 it is illegal for them.

Good to know. I can't remember if I had to buy Mass Effect and Oblivion with a different account or with this one... But I think I had to use a different silver account to download the ME3 Beta/Demo. I hope Microsoft just wants my money, I already spent it haha

That's not true. These rating are in fact the law and no store can sell a Mature game to anyone under the age of 17. This isn't anything new either. This has been the law for a while. That's why kids always have to have their parents buy certain games for them. That is also why the Xbox regulates between children and advlt accounts. Because they legally cannot sell Mature rated content to minors.

Nope. That's like saying a 3 year old could buy a pormo. The ratings aren't suggestions, they're mandated and official.

Oh ok. I see. Well I edited my orginal post a bit. If there was some mistake there must be something Microsoft can do. If his account is still set to a children's, there's no way he'll be able to download anything above a Teen rating. That's why these seperate accounts are set up like this, to keep people under a childs account from accessing anything rated Mature.

I would call up Microsoft and explain the situation.

I have gone to the My Account page and changed the setting from Teen to advlt, but it still won't let me buy content from the website, and tells me that only advlt accounts can do that. (Jackie Chan Meme)

Okey, i just checked it up, We use PEGI here in Sweden, from what i can gather its the law in the UK (since 2012 july 23'rd) but NOT here in Sweden, so for us its just a recommendation.

(Out of the 34 countries that use PEGI 8 has it legally enforced :P)

Like I said, it's impossible to change your account from childs or teens to an advlt. It has to change over itself on your birthday but since it didn't there must be some sort of mistake. There's actually a whole Xbox 101 video that explains a lot of this. You might want to find it. Anyway I would call Microsoft and just explain to them that your account never switched itself over when it was supposed to. I'm sure they have your information and hopefully they can switch it themselves. If you don't have an advlt account, you won't be able to download anything M rated.

I hope you get it figured out,

Oh ok, that makes sense. I'm sure games are regulated differently in your country. I apologize, I often forget that there are plenty of other people on here from foreign countries.

If you guys care, it did work. I was really mad for a second though. It took my points, but then kept giving me an error and not downloading.... For some reason it started to work after I kept hitting download again. Starting the download now, and this thread can be locked. Or not. It will probably die and fall to the bottom anyway.
