Dead Island: Riptide

Post » Fri Feb 15, 2013 3:21 pm

I can't believe that no one has made a thread about it yet, but during E3 Deep Silver announced that Techland was hard at work on a follow-up to their smash-hit zombie game Dead Island. Called Riptide, not much is known about the game. It will supposedly be released in 2013 on the PS3, PC, and 360 and, according to IGN, will retail for $50 due to it being released near the end of the console cycle. Interesting. What's your take on it? I for one had a blast with DI, even with the near Bethesda levels of bugs and the Admiral Ackbar-like NPCs.

I really enjoyed the first game. The story could of been better. I would of been just fine if they stuck with the survival approach the whole game. The multiplayer was wonderful though. Nothing like screwing over your friends and running away when you get in a tight spot. I'll be looking forward to Riptide.

I'm kind of meh. Dead Island had some good combat, but the sewers were tedious, and the ending disappointed me since I'm 99% certaint I know exactly what the story will be like.

Spoiler
Charon somehow managed to smuggle the virus to the mainland, unleashed it on the world like his cut e-mails said he wanted to, and the world went to [censored].

I just hope they don't go randomly dropping story arches, like what the hell happened to John Sinamoi? One minute you were helping get them food and medicine, and suddenly that arch just gets dropped. Granted I suppose one could argue 'everyman for himself' and the survivors fled for self-preservation, but still.

I hope they'll work on a better storyline this time around though, because the combat was pretty good, the characters you could be were just ordinary people who try to survive, and the set pieces were pretty memorable. Hope we get to find out what happened to Logan though, because he was my favourite/preferred character.

How can the console be at the end of its cycle with no new info on ps4/Xbox720 or whatever they will be called at e3 this year? Are you telling they plan on announcing and releasing within a 3 month time frame?? I think riptide will be full retail

I've been playing the first game with my friend in co-op and it's been fun so far. I was looking at Green Man Gaming and they have the pre-order for the game at $39.99 and if you use the 20% coupon it's only $32. Why is it so cheap?

EDIT: And yes I dug this from the graveyard. :P

I just bought the pre-order. It was too good of a deal to not buy it.
