Dead Money download from Steam incomplete

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:43 am

Good Afternoon,

An hour or so again Dead Money became available for purchase and download via Steam. I paid for the add-on via credit card, and Steam then commenced downloading it.

However, the only file Steam appeared to add to my Data folder was "DeadMoney - Sounds.bsa", and on playing the game I do not get the radio message from the Sierra Leone casino.

Does anyone else have this problem, or a suggestion on how to fix it?

Many thanks.

It's spelled Sierra Madre ;) I assume it will not be properly downloaded untill midnight or tomorrow.

I have not DLed it so I can't say for sure. But check your data files by clicking it when you start the game (before pressing play). And then check Dead Money. If it is not in there it is an incomplete download. Try downloading it again. I have never downloaded DLC from Steam before so I can't say for sure how it works but it is activated the same way as mods.

It's not activated the same way, and indeed it's not stored in the same location if you have a legal copy.

At least it wasn't for FO3 and if they had a method of autoloading official DLC then I don't see why they would abandon it now.

You *will not* see it in your ESP list, even if it is legitimately installed, if it uses the old system.

I had a similar problem, and after buying it noticed that Fallout New Vegas had downloaded an update (which is how DLC is delivered on Steam). But it turned out that it was FNV itself that had been updated earlier.

I restarted Steam and the DLC immediately began downloading.

The other thing you will need to do is tick the Dead Money DLC box in the "Data Files" section of the game launcher. It's not ticked by default for some inexplicable reason.

I had issues accessing my data files section to activate my DLC.
My solution was to clear my local install and re-installed ........ all is good now.
I also have Steam installed on a drive other than default. Windows 7 X64. I think I am working from my original install from release date.
No issues with loosing my saved files for anyone that may ask.

Hope this helps some.

I have this problem. Restartign steam doesnt work for me. The download size says it was 100.2MB and the only file that shows in the Steamapps/common/falloutnewvegas/data is DeadMoney-sounds.bsa. I know it is incomplete because the 100 MB is the exact size of the sound files. No textures or meshes BSA is in there or the DeadMoney.esm. Any help? restarting steam doesnt work and i dont know how to redownload it.

Try deleting local content and reinstalling the game.

But simply restarting Steam seems to have worked for me, too.

Well im currently reinstalling Fallout New Vegas. The problem seems to be that Steam doesnt install the other neccessary files, these are DeadMoney-Main.bsa, DeadMoney.esm, and DeadMoney.NAM. So far my reinstall is at 32% so more Dead Money files may arrive.

Steam certainly is the culprit if your Dead Money esm is not installed. If so it is neccessary to reinstall the New Vegas itself by right clicking on the corresponding title in the games library list and selecting delete local content. After it is finished re-click nad select install game. If Dead Money has been purchased it will install it (hopefully) correctly as the actual content is reinstalled. No other applications are affected, including mods, FNVedit, GECK, etc. Thought the new patch made New Vegas Script Extender unworkable.

Otherwise some may get lucky by simply restarting steam. This may cause the download to reinitiate. However if in the dlc section it says Dead Money is installed and is ready to play but it still is unplayable the above step is likely neccessary.

Ridiculous.

Same as others reported, only downloads the 100 meg sound file.

Anyway, I finally got it to work. Quitting and restarting, as well as verifying cache, multiple times, didn't work.

I turned off automatic updates, then quit Steam. Then restarted Steam, and turned automatic updates on. Then it started to download.

At the risk of asking a stupid question, how do you quit and restart Steam? I tried to download Dead Money from within the game itself. Can you restart Steam from the main FNV game menu?

I meant that it is activated on the data files startup menu the same as mods. I now have it and it is a ESM (not ESP). But then you just click the check box and it should activate. And I have the FO3GOTY and it is the same way for the official DLC on there.
Also use Steam to validate the local game cache files that fixed by inncorrect download. Right click on New Vegas and then click properties. And then click local files, and you will see the option.

Same thing happened for me as well. I close out Steam then restarted. All is well so far. Let's hope I do not find myself with red exclamation points all over the place!!
