Dead Wood Cutter Storage

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 9:46 pm

Owners of Lakeview Manor are doubtless aware of the dead wood cutter lying below the property (with his unique axe just beside him). His corpse doesn't disappear and I've found a nice use for him which I shall now detail below.

I dragged his corpse up to the house and dropped it just to the left of the front entrance and now I'm using him to store a spare set of armor and weapons. See, sometimes I just want to go outside to have a sit on the deck or play with the kids and what have you. However, you just never know when a pack of bandits or a giant will turn up on your property to give you a hard time and I hate having to suit up for combat every time I feel like stepping outside.

Sooo... in the event I step outside and some baddies decide to surprise me, I've got my "In Case of Emergency, Rummage through Dead Wood Cutter" kit handy right beside me. Granted, some might consider it to be distasteful to have a corpse decorating your front entrance, but I just RP the dead wood cutter as Drunk Uncle Woody-- passed out in the yard again.

I dragged his body into the middle of the lake and then swam down 30 feet and left his body there.
Don't worry it was about 3 feet away from the mage, that was also near my house doing dark magic at the altar below my house.

Having bodies around just doesn't feel right, though all that work was irrelevant because if my kids go exploring in the nearby woods then they will still find the altar which is surrounded by bones.

Thankfully enough I didn't adopt any kids yet and my heart is still torn between Lydia and Aela the huntress.

When I find a body, I just hit it with dual-wielded Flames. Figure I just gave it a Viking funeral.

Are there any outside chests? Because I think that would be a less... ah, smelly option.

There's a chest outside but it's a bit further from the door.

I have a similar situation in Morthal with two dead draugr that won't go away (they were there when I first bought the house). I dragged them next to the stable in the grass there but you might inspire me to use them somewhere else.

The Morthal character is a good guy but with a necromancer I'd definitaly put the draugr on the patio or something so they can soak in the sun.

I do wish there was an option to bury unwanted corpses.

I went to try this on the draugr that came with Windstad Manor, but now I can’t find them. Maybe they’re under the carriage. Anyway, is it possible to raise the unwanted corpses as zombies and then just walk them to a spot where the ash pile won’t be an eyesore?

I didn’t mind the draugr on the ground. It was a reminder to the kids that yes, there ARE monsters in the swamp. Don’t go out there to play without your daggers.

Oh, and I still haven't found Uncle Woody. Now I know what to do with those empty skooma vials and wine bottles.

Strange thing happened today...

I walk out of my house and I spot a dead naked woman on the ground at the fast-travel arrival point. Since I don't remember leaving a dead naked woman there, I go check to see who this woman is and her name is "Worshipper." So my first thought is, "Worshipper? I have naked women coming over to the house to worship me now? When did this happen? And how did she die on my front lawn? " And then I look over to Uncle Woody rather suspiciously. Was Uncle Woody making late night jaunts to the pub and bringing women home with him?

Finally, I realize she's one of the dead worshippers from the nearby Talos shrine and her body somehow managed to zone over to the house much like the dead draugr do over at Windstad. And she's naked because I'd looted her corpse several days earlier.

Anyway, now Uncle Woody has a girlfriend.

Open the console with ~ and click on the body, now type disable. Poof, body is gone.

You can't use console commands when not playing on PC, and Hearthfire hasn't even come out for that platform yet.

Dovahkiin:Let me ask you a question. When you came pulling in here, did you notice a sign out in front of my house that said "Dead Wood Cutter Storage"?
Jules: Dovahkiin, you know I ain't seen no...
Dovahkiin: [cutting him off again; getting angry] Did you notice a sign out in front of my house that said "Dead Wood Cutter Storage"?
Jules: [pause] No. I didn't.
Dovahkiin: You know WHY you didn't see that sign?
Jules: Why?
Dovahkiin: 'Cause it ain't there, 'cause storing dead Wood Cutters ain't my [censored] business, that's why!

If you want to get rid of a dead body then this should work. Reanimate the corpse as a zombie then kill it. It should then turn into a pile of ash.

His body disappeared for me, even before I started construction of Lakeview, it was gone (His axe reappears though).

Not sure if this is unique to me, or something everyone has to look out for, but I'd definitely suggest not keeping anything too precious on his corpse.

That's odd. I was away from the house for quite some time and when I got back I'd noticed that the corpse of the conjuror I'd killed earlier (at the altar below) had disappeared while his remained, so I just assumed it was one of them perma-corpses.

Anyway, thanks for the head's up.
