I usually just keep the Alien Blaster for numerous Deathclaws although from the other weapons I have as limited as they are I was considering using the Trail Carbine (44 mag rounds), but I've only be playing for about 20-30 hours haven't got the rest of the weapons yet. If fact find a good high spot where they can't reach you and pot shot away.

Options,

1)sneak by them
2) take new route.
3) Get a Anti Material rifle with AP rounds.
4) Mini Gun with AP rounds.

[sblock]Go to novac and talk to the ranger in one of the hoses about his legs,if you have a high enough speech skill you can learn the most op move in the move that lets you knock down enemys when unarmed, once you get it begin the attack as soon as they lunge at you and it will land when they hit you, proceed to spam it on them when their down[/sblock]

But if you haven't found any heavy weapons yet, Death claws are way tougher now; something to be really feared. Especially in hardcoe mode. I was used to deathclaws being a joke in F3, but have had my head handed to me (literally) numerous times by the FNV deathclaws. I still haven't found any thing decent to take them out. I'll manage to take out maybe one of them, but the other 3 or 4 will ra pe me. Now I sneak around them, and if spotted run like hell and hope they don't catch up to me..

The Deathclaws in New Vegas are a completely different kettle of fish (so to speak) compared to the ones in Fallout 3, in that they are a lot tougher and more deadly.

By the sounds of what you've said I think you are trying to walk to the BoS hideout directly from Vegas by heading south straight through the main Deathclaw area, which is a very bad idea especially when low-mid level.

I advise/suggest that you nip back to Springfield or the NCRCF and then head to the BoS Hideout by walking Northwards or at least North Eastish, this way you will avoid the main Deathclaw area and thus won't be used as a brief chew toy every couple of minutes by a peckish Deathclaw or four.

Get to a higher level possibly? Get some good armor, plenty of stimpacks, take some med-x too, and get some heavy weapons. I usually use the flamer because fire works for everything unless you are fighting the devil.

I find sniping them with the Gauss rifle from far enough away that you can only see them through the scope saves on game reloads. They never actually attack so you can pick off the entire pack if you have enough MFCs
