Decide on a Setting

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 5:44 pm

ATTENTION!
As mentioned later in the thread, I've decided to go with a Feudal Japan mod, so the poll is closed, sorry:
Ok everyone, I'd just like to thank you all for voting. I'd also like to tell you that I'll be working on a Feudal Japan mod called "Sengoku" with my friends. I decided to leave the Tamriellic Provinces to more skilled modding teams and unfortunately, I've lost interest in an Akavir mod (lack of humans is boring).

So soon you'll start to see some news of the Sengoku mod, but the project's current banner can be viewed http://i43.tinypic.com/j7yyxy.jpg

Again, thank you all for voting.

Hello. I'm quite new to the forums.
I've been doing Oblivion and Morrowind modding for about 5 years now. And I've made multiple small-scale mods. I plan to make a big mod for Skyrim with a few of my friends, but I can't decide on a location and setting. There are 4 settings that I think would be great to make and play around in, but I would like the community's opinion on the best. Some info on each one:

Feudal Japan - approx. 1580-1600
During the 16th Century, Japan was engulphed by an era cival war that raged on for more than 100 years. Players would be able to see real-life locations, join samurai armies/clans and attempt to make their clan the best in Japan, become a ninja or just try to make a living in a time of chaos.

Akavir - 3E 430
Akavir is located to the east of Tamriel. My idea is that it would follow the adventures of the Nerevarine to Akavir after the events of Morrowind. The player would be able to either join the Ka'Po Tun and wipe out the last of the Snake People. Or join the Tsaesci and regain supremacy in Akavir.

High Rock - 4E 200
This would be more of an expansion to Skyrim. Adding no new Main Quest, but lots of side quests, shrines and, most of all, a new environment to run around in.

Hammerfell - 4E 200
Similar to High Rock, an expansion to Skyrim. Lots of side quests and the chance to find powerful artefacts in the great Alik'r Desert.

So go vote away and post any questions or comments here. And keep an eye open for my mod in the future...

Edit: P.S. A vote in the poll is 1 vote. If you take the time to comment, I'll count it as 2 votes :)

Feudal Japan, man. Something that's out of the lore, but would still feel right with the engine and game.

Feudal Japan doesn't stray that much from lore... see Blades.

In the feudal Japan mod, is it a realistic Japan with no magic, or a fantasy Japan with magic?

I'm really, really into Japan culture and I think that Feudal Japan would be awesome as a setting. Sadly, though, it seems the poll disagrees with me. =[ Oh well.

Bit of both. Mostly realistic but perhaps special training to connect to nature (like many ninja myths/stories) - or just scrolls.

I'm leaning towards the Feudal Japan one at the moment, perhaps leave High Rock and Hammerfell to more talented modders (also prevents having 3+ High Rock Projects going, Feudal Japan is much more original)...

High rock looks best add a main quest and it'd be gold.

Western Morrowind up to the shores of the Ocean. Cap it off around the Southern end of the Skyrim Border. If you like all Skyrowind would be cool...

I was thinking of doing something like this but we've already seen Morrowind lately, it would be a bit of pressure to keep it similar to TES III.

Well, there have been threads announcing a HighRock mod and another thread announcing a Hammerfell mod,
so how about the Akivir mod?

Fuedal Japan is my vote.

The One power would be kind of hard to pull off I think... If you know the series then you know it functions much differently than other types of magic power such as the one used for TES. Saidin and Saidar would have to be differentiated somehow. Ter'Angreal, Sa'Angreal, and Angreal would be odd as well I think. Not too mention the world is huge and any mods would be very hard pressed to do it any sort of justice. Trollocs would be odd. Would need to randomize them and make sure they all have different animalistic features. Myrdraal and Gholam would be weird to code if they were to represent them accurately. *Shrugs* would be cool though.

I do not know of this Midkemia...

A wheel of time mod would be a huge undertaking for any team but would be pretty awesome. If there was a team for that i'd be on board...

Actually your right, I wasn't thinking too straight when I made that post I guess.

But how could you not know about Midkemia? I was of the opinion that Raymond E. Feist novels were Basic Introduction to Generic Fantasy 101, hehehe...

If it's going to be Feudal Japan, would it take place in the Nobunaga mythos? For example, with Nobunaga as the final boss and Samonosuke Akechi as the main questgiver?

And with arquebuses as weapons? : P
That would be too much work.

Would be either Nobunaga or Hideyoshi's time. Possibly even the transition, Nobunaga's death and the chaos that followed. I also don't want to have an evil Nobunaga, like every other game seems to make him, I want to flesh him out more as a character and help people see his motives, etc.
