Deleted savegames keep reappearing

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 9:54 pm

I hope someone will have an answer to this.

To avoid a heap of savegames I often delete the older ones. Now I noticed - they keep coming back. I delete them in the game itself with X. I deleted the whole saves folder under User/documents etc. I deleted them with Wrye Bash. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. And STILL the old savegames keep coming back, they reappear miracuously in my savegame list. Everytime I delete them, the next time I start Skyrim they are back. Why??

Anybody knows a way to get finally rid of them?

Perhaps they're getting reinstalled via the Steam cloud? An easy way to check is to play with Steam in offline mode and see if it still happens.

Yep disable the cloud imo.....online/offline shouldn't matter. Also how are you deleting the files? In game or from the folder?

Thank you very much ... now the stupid part - Steam Cloud? Please forgive me, I am glad I got this whole Steam business working at all. Where can I find the online/offline mode?

Thoth: I deleted them ingame, in the folder and with Wrye Bash. I emptied the desktop paperbasket after that. (sorry if it sounds stupid, but that′s my horribly inadequate translation from German into English)

I also noticed that Steam keeps everything I changed ingame before, like different key assignments.

Ah OK deleting them in game is best bet excluding any mod based stuff that I may not know about. I tend to keep about 10 - 20 inside the game save folder and back the rest up elsewhere(plenty of space on this 2TB HDD so I just save all of them) as leaving tons inside the game folder can cause some menu lag load slowdown etc.

Def best to keep that steam cloud off in regards to Skyrim and do manual backups.....it works great for non modded games that aren't seeing a patch monthly but at this stage in (lol development sad to say after release) Skyrim manual backups of everything is the way to go.

I have two copies installed one is my "experimental 9 ugrids super tweaked config CPU killing mess" and the other is my more stable balanced 7 grid play game.

Ok, I found Steam Cloud, it′s under Updates ^^ I deactivated it and will see what happens now.

Good idea with a separate savegames folder ... maybe if I move the savegames instead of deleting them, they will stay where I want them.

If you still see it syncing when you exit steam I wouldn't worry....I have plenty of games on steam so I assume it is syncing for them.

I still delete them in game after they are backed up pretty much my protocol for each play period goes like this:

1. Load Game via the SBW.exe (preference)
2. Delete all saves less the most recent 2 to 3 save files in the load menu
3. Play (normally for about 3-4 hours which nets me about 20 -30 saves)
4. Exit game and copy all saves to my backup folder

then next time I boot up just follow step 1 again
