Deleting all my saves. Can't find what I like?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 8:19 pm

Alright, so. I've been playing Skyrim for the most part of this recent weekend and became level 14 on my Wood Elf, who completed the Dark Brotherhood. And a Nord level 11, who completed the companions and half the MQ. But the thing is, I don't feel connected to any of these characters.

When I play warrior, I want to be a mage, when I play mage, I want to be an archer. I don't want to do all of them, because then I'd have to use many perk points on three combat skills, which seems like a waste. So I'll delete my progress so far and start fresh.

I've always liked the stealthy types of gameplay, with bows or daggers. But in Skyrim, it just doesn't work with stealth if you want to take on a dragon solo. I'll have to consider what I pick, because I'm getting bored of restarting everything now. :whistling:

Any advice? Which style do you like the best?

Try a sneaky warrior instead of pure stealth. You can stick with light armor and balance it with a shield and sword.

1h (swords)
Block
Light Armor
Sneak
Archery

The problem with daggers is that they're the redheaded stepchild of the 1h tree and aren't even worth it until you max sneak. You can kinda make up for this if you level conjuration, since you can get a bonus to all bound weapons with that, including daggers.

lol...feeling the same way you do...have also allready started several characters and not yet found my one deal...

what i have played the longest so far is some kind of mage/thief (lets call it a warlock cause it sounds cool)
focussing on
alchemy
destruction
light armor
1h
sneak
some alteration for the shield - but hardly ever use it...

mostly i run 1h weapon and spell which works good against melee enemies....i usually sneak kill, if i cant always do this - fire until they charage, i dodge, power attack to stagger them, then backaway again and roast em again...

but if anything hits me...non good...

i also have tried more warrior focussed, archer which is fun but you die fast in close combat and a pure mage....but nothing feels 100% to me....

damn, you already completed all that [censored]? maybe that's your problem. Sounds like you're rushing the game. Try not doing quests, not fast-travelling (i'm assuming you're FTing a lot) and just slow down and try to get to know this character you've created.

 I donno what else to suggest.

I like the survivalist warrior... standard warrior fare- one handed weapons, heavy armor, shields.... But I spend loads of time collecting ingredients for alchemy and take the time to occasionally increase my restoration abilities. Smithing and cooking help make this character succeed in the wild. I just wish I could setup a cooking pot at any fire I find.

The hell it doesn't. Tell that to my pure thief character who only uses bows and daggers and has all of his perks in Stealth, Pickpocketing, Archery, and Lockpicking. I've solo killed 5 dragons so far. Enchanted bows, poisons, etc. It wasn't hard. A lot of people even think dragons are easiest to kill with a thief character.

Besides that, what you are suffering from is being paralyzed by choice. You want to try it all. Force yourself to stay with one character and play through the game. I'm already imagining what I'll do next time around with a mage character, but I'm not using magic with my thief character. You won't really be able to max more than 4 or so skill trees anyway, so pick a focus and stay with it.

If you really love stealth, there's a way you can actually reach OP damage levels later on in the game:

Spoiler
There are 2 rewards from the Dark Brotherhood quest chain that really boost your kill damage into the stratosphere. One's a dagger, the other is a pair of gloves.

I was just about to say this. I've got about 10 hours on my save (just reached level 6) and I've barely started the companions, haven't touched the main quest and have done one side mission, and only then because I was going that way anyway. Hell, I haven't even been to each city yet. I'm working my way around the map anti-clockwise. Whiterun > Riften > Windhelm > Winterhold, you get the idea.

Don't just create a warrior because you want to do companions quests, don't just create a mage because you want to do the college of winterhold quests. Take your time. Make a character that feels right, then as you come across them, decide which quests suit the character best. Roleplay. Try to abstain from fast-travel and really see the world.

High Elf with bound weapons satisfied my need for both a pure mage and warrior.
