Delphine, You [censored] Mood Killer!

Post » Tue Oct 23, 2012 12:43 am

Well, ladies and gents, I was off to tell Esbern and Delphine about the
Spoiler
Elder Scroll to get dragonrend to defeat Alduin
when Esbern started narrating his dream. I love this part a lot, because I get lost in it. Well, being the roleplayer that I am, I had my character get lost in it too next to Esbern. He had his eyes closed and remembered the first time he met
Spoiler
Alduin
, and when he heard Esbern get to the part about him attacking, he remembered that he too had the same exact dream! At least...that's how it normally goes. They say everything changes, and that includes this little ritual of mine too I guess, because Delphine has seen me do this countless times, and she wasn't having any of it on this playthrough. Before I could say "Ermahgerd NO, My eemersiuns!" 1000 Bounty in whiterun randomly appeared on my screen, and Delphine started swinging....

Instead of this ending with a nice warm and fuzzy feeling of a successful immersive story like my last thread about the Thalmor attacking at the perfect time, it ended with a Fusrodah, and a flying Breton down the face of the mountain, and a quick reload.

Anyone else have their own moments of buzzkill?

Edit: It seems people dont have the slightest clue what I am talking about, so watch this, then read this again.

I have no specific constructive feedback on this issue, but I just wanted to state that you've made my day sir.

When you go back to esbern after the alduins wall mission, he will be by the mountainside with delphine talking about a dream he had. delphine has a glitch where sometimes she will randomly attack you. usually because of a whiterun bounty, but in this case, i was randomly given one, and she attcked me in the middle of esbern's narration of his dream.

I don't think I've ever gone back to him after Alduin's Wall. Is this after you've met Paarthy for the first time? When the game suggests that you go either to Arngeir or Esbern to ask them about the Elder Scroll? I've never seen any reason to go to Esbern, I mean, Arngeir is right down the mountain in the building I have to pass through anyway, why would I travel all the way across Skyrim when I can ask someone next doors?

Next time I'll be meeting Esbern is usually during Season Unending (if I do that quest), and then I usually stop by after the MQ is finished to tell them Alduin's gone. But by then he and Delphine just go on about how they want me to kill Paarthy, which I refuse, so that's when I decide I won't have anything more to do with them.

Maybe I should make that trip then, if the dialogue's good, but I can't think of a good RP reason, unless my character really hates the Greybeards (my current Dragonborn doesn't know she's Dragonborn yet, but she'll looove the Greybeards once she met them, they're just her type of people - weird mystics living on mountain, worshipping Kyne).

Its any time after meeting paar, but before the peace meeting i believe. my rp reason was that him and delphine have been to cyrodiil where the elder scrolls used to be. my character figured that out from a book about the scrolls. so he figured they'd know. my other playthroughs, i just went there to tell them how everything is going, and that the treaty is going down. that leads to them and arngeir arguing over paarthurnax when the blades go to high hrothgar.

You do realise Esbern and Delphine are Nords? Unless you were referring to your player character.

I just knew the OP was going to talk about the Dragonborns first meeting with Delphine in her little "hideout". The part where she says "Let me get changed into some traveling clothes". I was all like "Cool" thinking that I'll see her change, but instead, she just magically transforms out of her old dress into leather armor with no nudity whatsoever. My Dragonborn was all like "Darn, that was a letdown".

This isn't exactly what you're talking about, but the only similar thing I can think of from my games is being in a conversation with an NPC and having to listen to a roomful of other NPCs gabbing away furiously at the same time. It's like they wait for the exact second when my character has entered into a conversation to finally let rip with all the the remarks and observations and random greetings they've been suppressing for hours. I have actually had to load a previous save, in hopes that this time I might be able to actually hear what an NPC was saying to my character.
