My "Oh, crap!" memory is that I always get lost when I'm playing Descent 2 level 21. It is always too hard for me and I have to use cheating codes to find targets...

for me, it was when I first realized that shooting diamond claws with energy weapons turned them into semi-intelligent smart missiles that growled at you.

Don't worry; that must have taken me about five years to work out.

Any time where I'm opening a door to a missile in the face. Specifically the mega. A massive thank you to EA for:
- Producing great quality games time and time again
- Providing excellent technical support
- Never destroying any highly acclaimed studios for profit
- Never ripping people off
- Never wasting people's time

Ditto

Though I think "Oh Crap" is a little weak. I nearly soiled my pants the first time I met him When in danger, When in doubt, Run in circles, Scream and shout!

If you like Drillers, go on Descent 1 Level 22. I remember when I got used to trainee & rookie (a long time ago) and I only used to die in that level.

But the real "OH CRAP" thing is the green platform robot! Open a door with one of those behind on insane and

Yay, gotta love the 5 concussion missiles right in your face! But my d1 arch enemy is the heavy driller, almost unbeatable if you're playing "insane"

Heavy driller aint a problem for me on insane (when i was only 4), but the REAL problem was fusion hulk on insane. :? :? :? :( :? :? :? :o :o :o "When you learn to control your emotions and tame them, no matter what situation you're in, you will then truly become king."-Sonny, speaking to a young boy

This is more of a "Oops, design flaw much" moment, but, on D2 Level 11 in the reactor room, I flew in, took out a few bots, shot the panel that opened up the wall that I flew through to get in, flew out, went back in, blew up the reactor and then "Oh, Crap!' The damed wall closed again! Now the switch is busted, robots spawning like mad out of the MatCens, and the timer ticking down, and the last saved game was two levels ago! If you are going to fight a war, do it efficiently, unremittingly, or don't do it at all--I'm not into ethics, I'm into efficiency.--Benjamin St. John "Descent" by Peter Telep

In Descent 1 I was playing level 18ish (give or take 2 levels, I can't remember) when I had a memorable "Oh, Crap!" moment. I destroyed the reactor and was headed towards the exit. I was very low on shields to the point where one shot would kill me. I passed by a Red Hulk who shot a homing missile at me. I was headed straight for the exit ahead with the homing missile chasing me, getting closer and closer (I love the missile lock sound effect, it makes moments like this more dramatic). The missile was like one yard behind me when I hit the exit, it was great.

There were plenty of times when the screen was turning white as I hit the exit.

Fighting boss robots without knowing about strafing is incredibly scary since you simply can't take them on directly. Hiding behind walls listening for the sound the boss makes to figure out where he is and then taking quick shots at him and going back into hiding, hoping not to get blown away... gaming at it's finest.

My first "Oh crap!" moment was also the level 7 boss bot in D1 - I knew about it and eased my way in through the tunnel, and I could hear the grinding noise. Didn't fire at me or anything, though, so I stayed as far back in the tunnel while I tried to work out my strategy. But at one point, it randomly teleported to the tunnel entrance and fired a smart missile at me, and kaboom. I swear, that freaked me the heck out the first time it happened. :)

It took me five trips into that boss room before I figured out that I had to just be aggressive with that thing.

How about your "Oh, cool!" moments? My first one was getting a good demonstration of the robots' AI in Level 5. I had several of those green scissor bots following me down a narrow tunnel, so with rear-view on, I dropped a prox bomb. The first robot ran into it and blew up. Dropped another prox further down, and the other two robots stopped just behind the bomb. I then turned around and shot the bomb, blowing up the second bot. Third bot chased me a bit further. I then dropped another prox and watched the bot back up out of the bomb's blast radius, sit there for a moment, then duck down a side passage and attack me from the other end of the tunnel.

I still remember that being one of the best points about this series: The robot AI was pretty phenomenal, and still is by many standards. :)

My worst "Oh Crap" experience was Descent level 27 the end game boss I flew in to the room and then I saw the size of that thing I was like Hi .--> Bye haha flew triChordingly through that room to9 the secret door flew down destroying the robots and gathered the needed powerups and such and had a breether then I was like and now what do i do hahaha

The "Oh cool" moment was defeating it with like 02% shields left over, 37% energy and getting the hell out of there.
The leftover robots were still firing at me, so entering the exit was a big phewie!

I played it in Hotshot mode back then, this was like 10 years ago.

I have to admit Descent 1 is still thebest made, because you had the feeling of much more excitement, Descent II was very cool not to mention but D1, you had limited ammo compared to D2 and the level build up, the robots and the entire plot it kinda blew away my mind and it still does, I grew up with Deescent 1 and it's still there in my collection as the best game ever made.

D2 and D3 were very cool to play and I still play these but D1 still has tat extra feel of more excitement , when the mine blows you have like half less the time to exit and no guidebot, no after burner just you your ship and your weapons and that is it, just perfect.
