For the Desert Survivalist achievment, does consuming nuka-cola or sunset sasparilla count as "food?"

I don't think so.

I'm guessing purified and dirty water don't count either?

I haven't paid much attention to that, the only thing i can tell you thats 100% is drinking enough bottled water will give you a perk that will increase your H20 consumption.

I don't believe anything that isn't food counts towards desert survivalist.

I am doing that trophy now, Purified water does count towards the 10000 hp but Nuka and other drinks don't for me. I don't know about dirty water as I never drink it.

You can always check by going into the challenges menu on you pip boy(in data/misc) and looking at "other challenges", Desert survivalist is normally 4 or 5 down. Then just drink something and see if the number goes up.

I hate the two heal 10,000 point challenges. I don't think I took 10,000 damage the whole game, and did most of my healing with sunset soda.
