Destructoid's Quick PAX Impressions

Not sure if many of you know who Jim Sterling is. He's one of the few reviewers who actually rate on a full 1-10 scale. (5 being average instead of 7.5) He's also infamous for giving Assassin's Creed 2 a 4.5, Final Fantasy XIII a 4, and Alpha Protocol a 2. Having said that, it's really refreshing to read that he thinks Fallout New Vegas is "more polished, more tight, and more complete" and that the story/dialogue is what's going to make it or break it, and we all know the writing will be stellar.

and we all know assume the writing will be stellar.

that said, I have very high hopes for this game. Personally, I hold it in a 8-10 range. Hopefully it will be a bonafied 10 on most if not all reviewer boards. Maybe it's going to be so good even YAHTZEE will praise it. :vaultboy:

Somehow he doesn't sound sincere.

Ughh, I HATE Jim Sterling. Praises horrible stuff like Deadly Premonition (which was so bad it was hilarious) and gives decent stuff like Alpha Protocol a 2 because it had bugs and the minigame made him made.

I honestly can't think of a single Obsidian game that had poor writing. Not a one.

It's not a question of how bad will it svck. But more 'Is this really THAT impressive?'

Don't get me wrong, but if anyone says it has flawless writing, they need to take off the tinted goggles.

Well I liked the writing personally, but then again, low standards. So I'm not high strung on criticism

Sterling isn't hard on games or anything.

All he wants is attention. He's like the Paris Hilton of video games.

He saw he wouldn't get the attention by bashing it because it looked to good so he praises it.

The guy can go to hell.

(I love New Vegas by the way. And honestly Obsidian's writing is pretty flawless in what they want to achieve. Yes.)

Storm of Zehir had pretty bad writing. Of course that was probably intentional since Obsidian was going for a very simplistic, old school presentation.

I thought Fallout 3 had good writing. I am sure New Vegas will have a better story (etc), but probably not as good as people think.

I thought Storm of Zehir to be rather passable. The lead writer for it doesn't work anymore at Obsidian though.

To be honest, the writing of Fallout 1 wasn't that much better than 3's. Sure there are some funny lines(I hope we won't end up looking like you.), but besides that, I found it to be pretty standard.

I guess all the hype made me set the bar too high.

i seriously doubt YAHTZEE will give it a Great review. he hates everything. i personnaly think him hating everything is starting to become sort of a gimmick . when i watch his videos i can barely tell weather he like the game or hates them.

still i dont think he can hate new vegas that much. as he didnt review fallout 3 very harshly. he actually was mostly positive about it.

Lies.

Look at the dialogue tree for The Master and compare that to anything in Fallout 3.

P.S. Lies was kind of a joke.

It may be one man's opinion
but its I think its nice for Vegas to get a small  before it comes out
thats always a nice way to start off a game

also, did anyone else feel like they lost -1 Intelligence reading some of the comments ^_^
(very cheezy wording I know)

If you lost -1 Intelligence wouldn't you, by the wonders of double negativity, be gaining Intelligence?

i really dont get some of these previews, some of them have people doing it , when there not even a fan of the series, its stupid,

in my opinion, no offence to obsidian, but there hasnt been one game of theirs that i liked, but it looks like there doing good with fallout new vegas. in fallout 3 the writing didnt bother me , nothing really did in that game i liked it so much that the flaws, i didnt notice them, but yes the writing could have been better,

i have played the first two fallout games....just adding that....

I don't really care for reviews. Ebert isn't very good about a lot of movies and some of my favorite games have been reviewed as 5s by the same people that dish out 8s for crap games.

Thanks for the link. A 1 to 10 scale. Game Informer uses that too but it is rare they (GI) refer to 5 being "average" instead of "poor".
