"Hey, we have a really popular reboot, and an assured dedicated fanbase on the PC, Xbox, and Playstation systems that would be overjoyed to hear we're adding another game to the series."
"Cool. Hey, wanna only release the new one on mobile devices?"
"GENIUS!"
It's a large market.
Welp it sounds like a dump miladerp shooter. The spunk gargle wee wee genre to quote Yahtzee.
Edit
I hate how they hyped it a lot on "core" gamer news sites, like we would really give a [censored].
Pft, I dont even know what to say about this....
I truly expect more and more game developers to be heading towards the mobile market. That's not to say that it won't be freaking crap in the beginning, and we'll have to svck it up and just deal with it.
I can't see myself being able to play a game on any mobile device except for ones that may come with it.. other than that, the ones that go to the mobile market are ones I won't care to familiarize myself with.
I'll be referring to this as Deus Ex The Fail.
Not that I have anything against mobile games, but if your last game was extremely popular on the consoles and PC, the why in the hell would you put time, money, and effort into a single demographic that will not meet the success of your previous title?
I'm the one who voted NO! I don't own any device that could play this, but if it makes Eidos Montreal more money to spend on Thief 4, then I'm in!
It looks like Deus Ex: HR with worse graphics, touch screen controls, and a protagonist I don't care about.
Yeah, I'm disappoint.
I have a feeling the reaction to this is already the same as how everyone reacted to The World Ends With You getting a mobile game... This is a fairly minor game most likely, so it won't hurt a thing. Thief 3 had a mobile version before iPhones and iPads were even a thing and the series wasn't hurt by it at all. It might be like that version of Thief 3 was.
There's also a few other games that have had mobile versions and went just fine even with those existing. Just putting that out there since I know someone will say iPhones are killing gaming even when something is a spin-off that won't matter much. The World Ends With You got a social game as opposed to just a mobile game, but it still counts.
I'll vote for apathy. I wasn't really excited for anything nor do I feel betrayed or disappointed by this. Not really surprised, in fact.
I was really excited. Like, really, really excited for a moment there, but what the hell? Even if mobile gaming is a large market that will be expanded upon, it just doesn't make sense to make this mobile exclusive in an established franchise where plenty of people would want a new game.
I think the announcement link's like/dislike ratio pretty well answers the question of whether people are disappointed.
Never got on the hype train even though I loved HR. I probably would have been disappointed if I had.
