Abandon ship, abandon ship! :ahhh:

Very strange. I guess the fact that this happens shortly after those significant changes they announced the other day isn't a coincidence.

What a messy game. The real money trading system, the always online requirement, modding being forbidden, now all these changes and the senior producer leaving... The more I hear about Diablo 3, the more I'm sure Torchlight 2 is a much safer option for me.

He's probably had it with working on the same game for... what, a decade now?

I know I'd up and leave if I had to fiddle with one thing for ten [censored] years.

Blizzard is such a mess at this point.

Didn't a similar thing happen with Dragon Age 2?

I lusted after the idea of a Diablo 3 ever since LoD 1.08 and everything official they've released on the subject is just another confirmation that I'm not going to play it. The direction they've taken with the game is astoundingly disappointing.

They've been doing nothing but balancing for the past year now, which is probably the most boring and tedious part of developing a game. Really, would he even have anything worthwhile to contribute at this point?

People leaving isn't something new. Some do it, because there's not much else to do, creative differences, wants to do something else, or whatever.

But if you ask me, when WoW came, Blizzard sold its soul to the devil, and has condemned everything that made me love Blizzard since Diablo I to WC3:TFT. Wouldn't surprise me if D3 was quite mediocore, only propped by thoughts of nostalgia and an ever fading hope of past fans.

I'm passing on Diablo 3, too much wrong with the company and the game. Instead I'll look forward to Grim Dawn. http://www.grimdawn.com/ The creators of Titan Quest are working on it, that game was so under appreciated. It's really quite amazing.

I have been waiting 11 years for diablo 3, I am still going to pick it up but this is a bit sad.

On one hand, I want it to be blizzard game quality. On the other hand, jeez, shouldn't some of these design decisions be hammered out early on? Do the producers have no adminstrative power? You shouldn't be 10 years into a project before you realize some fundamental design decision is not what you wanted it to be.

Anyways, I'm sad to see they're pigeon-holing classes into roles now. The idea of playing a tank monk sounded very exciting to me.

Well, there were some in D2, in terms of what class should do what, like how a sorcress shouldn't tank with a sword and shield. But if the pigeon-holing you are referring to is what I believe you mean, not a good sign.

Of course, the only reason it needs

the always online requirement, modding being forbidden

is because of

The real money trading system,

Considering that I 1) could care less about trading/selling/etc, and 2) played D2 almost exclusively offline and got alot of playtime out of gameplay variant mods (like new gem systems, new scenarios, etc. Not that "maphack" stuff)..... yeah, not a fan of the direction they've been going.

Grim Dawn is certainly interesting. I'll be looking in to that. It's just disappointing that I can't anymore look forward to a game I had been looking forward to for years.

Oh, and I've yet to play Titan Quest. I need to get around to that one, too.

If the final product is anything like the beta then I'll be happy. People worry too much.

Titan Quest is the best Diablo like ever released. You should really play it when you can :) The game was very often available in Steam sales for very cheap.

Do make sure to buy the game + expansion pack and play both at once though, the XP really adds a lot of value.

Yeah, don't do it like I did - I assumed that the expansion was "more content after", and installed just the base game first..... and missed out on all the extra stuff they'd added that shows up throughout the whole thing.

Not really. You just separate online and offline (You can't play an offline char online).

That looks better than D3 and I didn't even see any WoW taint in it. Awesome. I just hope that they don't make so many terribly weak skills like Titan Quest. It's pretty annoying when 90% of the skills do static damage increases instead of percentages.

Of course that's the way it should be. Unfortunately that's not the way it's going to work. You will be required to have an online connection to play single-player.
