Diablo 3 No Skill Trees or Attributes

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 6:58 pm

So apparently Blizzard felt like because people were constantly resetting their skills they felt like just removing skill trees and give all the skills as you level up and you also no longer need to choose where you put does points in attributes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVTVMqtmxPU&feature=youtu.be

They justify that the old system encouraged people to just skill 2 abilities in order to become more powerful. This is a lie because in D2 a lot of skill builds were composed around using 8-9 abilities. They are simply removing one of the best parts of diablo 2 which is customizing your class to different play styles... now everyone is gonna be a copy of each other. If they felt people were just gonna end up resetting their skill trees until they got it right why not make it impossible to reset like in diablo 2 and make people commit to their choices?

Pffft what? You mean the 8 or 9 synergies you max out so you can spam that hammer skill ad nauseum?

I believe Diablo 2 was originally like that, and the only way to get a different skill build was to make a whole new character. Only in recent patches have they allowed soft resets of skills, and quite honestly it's a very good thing. Having to lock in to skill choices early on becomes a major pain if you end up selecting the wrong things.

I watched the video and I'm a little confused on what exactly they're doing. It sounds like a fancy version of respecing but I'm not sure. It also sounds like you still choose your skills but I'm not entirely sure how that's supposed to work. Lots of confusion in that video.

Edit: Okay, I watched the video again and this is how I understand it works. You get 6 skill points that you can assign to skills. You can respec these points, likely any time under certain conditions like in a town or something. The number of points you have does not change with your level (or never goes above 6, I'm still a little fuzzy on that). Skills improve with level, attributes, weapon damage, etc. And skills will obviously improve with equipped runes.

Soo, what's the temperature over at the Blizzard forums? Pretty high I wager, seeing the reactions on these forums to similar stuff recently. #cough# Skyrim#cough#.

Looks like my worst fears have definitely come true, Blizzard has managed to completely screw up one of my favorite game series.

Hammer skill nothing. I dumped points into oak spirit and grizzly bears. Made diablo my [censored] after that.

On topic: Sad the see skill points go away but it's not a big problem for me.

seems more and more like wow... when you level up in that game your attributes like intellect increase by a set amount depending on your class each time you level up.
