Diablo-style Random Item Mod for Skyrim possible?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 1:53 am

Just wondering if it's possible to have a special item mod for Skyrim that creates randomized items on the various NPCs and creatures in the game. Similar to the Diablo 3 system.

Just to spice up the various items in the game. Most NPCs/enemies are carrying boring weapons that aren't worth looting. It's extremely rare to find a piece of equipment that is an actual upgrade in Skyrim.

I think adding a randomized item mod system would make it more fun to pick through enemy corpses in the event you might actually find something powerful or at least valuable to sell.

I think Leviathan1753 of the Dynamic Leveled Lists mod is creating something like that for Oblivion and i'm sure that he will continue his great work in Skyrim too.

Looks cool. Is that just for creature spawns though? Or does it include a randomized loot feature too?

I think a lot of the loot the enemies carry is boring or, in most cases, just junk.
Same with the many locked chests in the world.

I'd like to see a more wide-open loot system in the game.

The loot system needs an overhaul for sure. I don't think it would be too difficult to implement a random loot system. Currently enemies are scaled based on ur level, so is there loot. I think a few changes in the script should allow for some randomization...

nearly ALL loot in leveledrim is already this random. play some more and you will notice it. its always the same weapon models just with a billion different entchantments. but they are all far inferior than selfmade ones from entchanting.

DLL is not the same as Diablo-style randomized loot. It does a lot of other things, and I don't think it randomizes enchantments that way.

My Automatic Random Enchantment System (ARES) for Oblivion is nearly complete, and will feature this sort of randomized loot, along with extremely powerful tools for modders to use to control the rates and types of enchantments. Once sixy is in a place to support it, I will endeavor to port it to Skyrim.

There have been a few other mods along these lines for Oblivion; none are as advanced as ARES but they are, ya know, out. I know of one German one, at least. There was also Jaga Telesin's Split Infinity, made long, long before OBSE could properly support the concept; unfortunately, it was never finished.

I love how SKSE is pronounced "sixy."

Skyrim already has exactly Diablo-style random items. It takes a normal item (Say, a Steel Longsword) and adds either a Prefix or a Suffix (or both) to it, for example Firey Steel Longsword of Frost. 'Firey' means it does fire damage, 'Frost' means it does frost damage.

What else are you looking for? Making more random bandits have epic loot?

Skyrim does no such thing, as a matter of fact.

As it should be. Wouldn't be much of a challenge if everyone ran around with Daedric or Glass 2 hours after they started if every few drop should be an upgrade :>

Should be very much possible to do though, "just" need to make a mod that extends the loot table with tons of predefined weapons and armors.

I doubt that this is the case. Those enchantments are all most likely manually done; they used the prefix/suffix system for naming them, but every enchantment is manually created. They just created a whole lot of them and stuck them in a leveled list so which gets chosen is random.

That's not the same, since it does not dynamically combine different affixes and choose a random enchantment value.

Of course, without the CK, I cannot confirm this, but this is how it has worked in each game since Morrowind.

I swear I'm not holding out on you, I just never could handle scope creep! I will try to port it once that becomes possible/assuming I'm right and Skyrim still needs it.

By the way, those interested in ARES might consider checking the thread.

You would not be able to detect this sort of thing from in-game; you need to be able to see the underlying definitions in the CK, which we don't have yet. I assure you, no previous Bethesda game used such a system, but did use the naming scheme.

No, it doesn't. Open the console and type "help sword." You'll see that all the magic swords have already been created and are just present in the leveled lists. There is nothing dynamic about their creation.

Along the lines of Diablo... a horadric cube to combine gems into better gems would be nice. Random loot would be fun too.

Gets rather annoying having almost every bandit in the world wearing fur armor... What, is there like some sort of bandit dress code or something?
