Wait, what?? I cleared that dungeon but found no machine inside....I have the necessary components, found loads of Ruby Geodes, and figured there was some weird mind-controlling / Alien face hugger weirdness going in with the bandits...is the machine at the end of the dungeon? And do I need to find the recipes or just craft them at that place?

It's at the end of the dungeon, and you gain recipes as you expiriment with different ingredients. There is also a journal that helps you get started.

The machine is inside a cage with a corpse, you need a key from a crazed dunmer inside the dungeon to open it, it's directly in front of the trap door ladder if you're looking into the room.

There is also a journal in there that helps you start out but have to use trial and error to uncover other spiders to make. Once you make them it will add the recipe to your inventory. Any soul gem and an albino pod will get you the mind control spider, my fav.

Luckily I'd been running with Prowler's Profit for a while and had plenty of gems to spare. If you use better quality gems you get more spiders, not more potent but still awesome fun. Since I specialise in shock spells I made lots of spiders that run up to enemies then zap them.

Yep found this (can't believe I missed it tbh) and it was very cool although I agree that from 1st person perspective, it looks a bit.... Well, disturbing!

In terms of the Oil Spider, what does that one do? I didn't have any Dwemer Oil on me at the time Oslo I couldn't try it

Its not in the word wall room. In the big chamber before you crass the 'gap in the floor' turn left and you';; eventually see a wooden sturcutre with a few spiders. After you'll kill them at the top of the stucture there is a cage with a dead guy in it and the machine on the table.
