Did Bethesda dumb the game down because...

Post » Wed Aug 22, 2012 10:39 am

Did they "dumb" the game down to please the so-called "casual" gamers? A lot of you who read this have already decided to yes, this is the case, but let me aak you something: Does the "casual" gamer really care if there are 18 skills instead of 21? Does he/she really care how you level up? Do they really want races that are pretty much identical? They don't. They don't care. They just want to kill dragons and [censored] around. Think about it. Bethesda knows this as well.

Did they dumb the game down because of trying hard to reach the 11.11.11 release date? Again, a lot of you seem to think so. But let me ask you a question again: when would you have liked the game to come out? Skyrim is the perfect example where the devs could just infinitly add stuff to the game. They could have spent several more years and just work on it, but would you rather have the game in 2011 or in 2016? Sure, more stuff could have been added if the release date had been pushed, but that's true for pretty much all games, but they have to come out some times.

So there, thats my humble answer to the "conspiracy theories" going around about those filthy casual players and the terrible 11.11.11 release date.

I don't care what other people think about the topic. Most people don't seem to understand feature creep and casual gamers. A thread called "please stop removing the game" is just idiotic at the best of times. Oh well.

I do not understand why you would create a thread if you do not care what other people think about the topic.

Why did you make a thread on this then if you don't care what anyone thinks?

And its yes. Skyrim has improved on/added little, and took away many old features that should have remained.

People live in the past...move with the times...otherwise, you will end up with geriatric developers who haven't advanced since the 1980's...

If moving with times means making and playing [censored] games I don't want to move with the times.

You don't advance by getting rid of popular features and other elements. You advance by adding new features and elements, and expanding upon and improving the old ones. Skyrim adds very little, and takes away a lot. But, the dumbing down started with Oblivion, so it's only natural that Skyrim would be the same.

I hate to see how much they take away in the next Elder Scrolls.

I don't much care for the term dumbing down. Even though Bethesda continues to water down the series (for whatever reason) using the term dumbing down insinuates that people who want to play it aren't smart enough to figure out how, therefore they must develop the game so even a five year old can play it.

Please people, can we stop using this term already?

I wholly agree with Barrettsfloyd. It's an insulting term, to everyone except the conservatives who use it.

Hey, if you want to play morrowwind, go for your lives...enjoy your substandard graphics...

Read the OP again, and gleam from which side of the fence they are. and learn, that who you think are the negative Nancies, aren't the real negative Nancies

You know what, any thread that tends to bash or look down their nose at any group of members which would include your so called "casual gamers" or tends to discredit them as any less than any other group of members is out under our flameing rule:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/724862-forum-rules-and-general-information/

So stop right there! Bethesda doesn't care if you are a casual gamer, a hardcoe gamer, an xbox gamer, a ps3 gamer or a pc gamer or an elephant...if you are a fan, that is good enough. No need to divide a forum over words that so far can't even be fairly defined.

"Dumbing Down" is used, it seems, by people who can certainly find other ways to express their opinions or disappointment with anything (not just games), without managing to snottily insult those who might actually just enjoy something. I guess it makes some people feel better about what they like. I dunno - I like old games, I like new games... I still play both. I don't have to assert that something is better by insulting the people who enjoy it.

I am going to lock this thread, basically none of you, from the OP on down, came off looking too good in this thread. And I'll save the time and probably save some of you from getting warned for being
