Did they nerf water purifiers?

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 3:46 am

I used to get 800 bottles from one site and 500 from a couple other, but now I'm getting no more than 50. I've tried sleeping for a week and doing some missions, but I still come back to around 50 bottles. I always keep my workbenches empty (I read online that having a couple bottles of water in your bench could stop water production). Did they change things or am I doing something wrong?

There's only been one patch so far, and I'm still getting hundreds of units of water per day in my workbench.

This isn't a glitch or anything that needs to be patched. It's a game mechanic. If I build 30 huge water purifiers in my settlement, it makes sense that I'd be getting a lot of water. They don't make this immediately accessible. You have to level up and get the appropriate perks to unlock the bigger generators and purifiers. You have to have the materials to build them. I see no logical reason that they would patch away a game mechanic that allows you to develop an entrepreneurial side to your character and develop a thriving water purification business.

Are you sure that you don't have a purifier or generator that got wrecked in an attack? If one link in the electrical chain is broken, everything downstream of it will cease to function until that piece is repaired.

I'm still getting 1000 a day at Sanctuary and 400 from Starlight, but only about 10% actually make it to those respective workbenches. The rest get distributed.

I thought it was hilarious that TenPines had 612 water in their inventory when I visited the other day when the have such a small population and are nowhere near water.

On the plus side, at least they weren't thirsty.

I went to Sanctuary last night and discovered that I had like, three bottles in the Workbench, when previously I was getting between 412-425 a day. I went over to the water purifiers in the water with their respective generators running on shore, and though the generators were all running, the purifiers were all OFF. So, I went and "Activated" each generator, turning it off, then back on. All of my purifiers came back on and I was back in business.

The building mechanic is pretty glitchy in this game. I just discovered that a ring of lights I had around a tower I'd built, which previously all lit up, suddenly no longer worked. So, I have to remove the light, saving it in my workbench, then re-placing the light in the same spot and it suddenly works again. I can't puzzle out why this keeps happening.

How do you fit enough water purifiers in that puddle at starlight to get that much water?

The water purifies can be as buggy as the rest of this game.

Twere'nt easy, but you can 10 industrials in there. I'll admit that I had to use the mat trick though to get them close enough to each other to make it work it. Sanctuary, on the other hand, was a breeze!

The trick is to remember that it is the intake pipe that needs to be in the water for it to work. If you time the movement right and settle it when it flicks green (and it's a microsecond), you can get it in right on the edge.

I'll take a pic when I get home tonight and post it. It looks like a mess and it's nearly impossible to do repairs and turn them on and off when I need to reset things, but it works. Fortunately the large generators don't have to be in there too!

Try building generators closer to the light box, this happen to me and moving the generators closer fixed it

They are right on the shore, up against the stone wall next to the river, where all of my water purifiers are located. The wires are actually very short. And again, this setup of large generators and large water purifiers work for something like 150 gameplay hours before suddenly deciding to shut down on me.

I'm still reading 999 water, but I'll check to make sure they're really on.

Instead of storing it in your workbench, try just picking it up and then hitting tab to cancel and place it back in the spot it was already in. That usually works for me when my lights go out. The saves the trouble of actually have to place it again because it just snaps right back to where it was.

Do you have supply lines?

In my experience a provisioner has taken a ridiculous amount to a settlement that needed some. Doesn't really seem to be a ryhme or reason as to why they take so much but I'm not sure how else I'd end up with 800 purified water in a settlement with no purifiers.

I've always been a little confused about how people do the water thing. Every vendor I've run across has a few hundred caps, usually less than 500. Do people really run all over the map (enduring the load times) collecting water, then once again run all over the map(and once again enduring the load times) selling that water to every vendor you can find? It seems like a very laborious process to get caps that are both easy to get otherwise, and kind of useless after a point. Or am I missing something?

Yes. Although most of us have the perk to raise their limits another $500 though. Still...

if you don't mind my asking, is there a point to it, or do people jst do it for fun or to see how many caps they can get? Or is there some achievement for getting X number of caps?

I started doing it for caps so that I could afford shipments as I kept running out of everything (particularly wood). It's not such an issue now. Now I sell most of mine to my own vendors and don't do so much traveling anymore.

As far as sell8ng water, you could just use it like currency when buying stuff. Want a fancy special weapon or armor, grab a pile of water, maybe load a companion up too, and go trade water for items.

Have you opened up more supply lines? Have your settlement populations been getting bigger? Maybe your settlers are just drinking more water?

Also are your purifiers working? If your settlement gets attacked they can get damaged and need repair.

One of my settlements had a reduction in the amount of purified water it produced and it was because I had to make repairs.

Firstly, whilst in Workshop mode, go up to the generator that is connected to the Water Purifier and if it says 'Repair' then repair it.

Secondly, look at the Water Purifier itself. I don't know about the medium sized Water Purifier's, but for the Large Water Purifier's they should have an 'Orange Glow' and if they don't then they aren't working. So you have to 'Store' the Large Water Purifier (sometimes you have to repair it first) then go to resources and choose Large Water Purifier and place it in the water. Then reattach copper wire from the Large Water Purifier to the generator. If you see the 'Orange Glow' then its working if you don't then its not.

What can be confusing is that sometimes the generator and the Large Water Purifier are attached with copper wire, you go up to the Large Water Purifier and click on it and it says that its working and powered and producing 40 Water, but if there is no 'Orange Glow' then its not working.

If you have traders in you setlement you can sell directly to all of them, this can easy give 2k caps every time you do the round.

If you use the castle as base you get the lady from old guns as an good trader and you can assign some other to the chem trade station without having local leader.

Else take with you 100 then you go to cities and buy shipments or ammo.

Use the house in Diamond City as a cache and use this each time you shop there.

In short you have an steady income and don't use much caps.

Each time I visit castle I store all junk, then unload raw food into workbench, then move purified water into the trade container.

Having 320 water I get 210-230 water each time I visit if more than an day ago.

Have you solved the problem yet as to why you're not getting as much water?
