Did you change your playstyle [from Oblivion]

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 1:31 am

For me, I really did. I actually used melee weapons more than magic, and I use alchemy so much more (I actually have fun creating potions this time, for some reason). Also been doing a lot less thievery (but I am a member of the thieves guild).

I did a little bit of everything in Oblivion. It was until after I retired my archer after 100 levels, that I went pure mage and stuck with it.

Nope. In fact, I'm playing it in EXACTLY the same way.

Yes i changed from a norn warrior (obilvion) to a dark elf assassin (skyrim/morrowind) mainly because i saw you can literally assassinate people and not just slap them in the back. and because im a svcker for dual daggers.

Basically not. Still going with Destruction + Blade. The only change is, ofcourse, that I'm not going with the sword+board combo and magic as a Battlemage, and that I'm not relying on several Alteration spells as much as I would in Oblivion.

I like both ways of playing. Skyrim is more intense due to being unable to Block as a true Battlemage.

I totally did. In Oblivion, I played a Mage that wielded a Two Handed Sword. I started out that way in Skyrim. It just was cumbersome for me. The switching around stuff just did not work for me. I felt I could not properly gear/perk/skill up when I got to the mid teens in lvl.

So, I broke with my traditional style of play and went with a new race and new arch type.

Not really. I hacked everything to death in Cyrodill and I'll hack everything to death in Skyrim.

It's Orcish, it's barbaric, it's blunt, it's mindless, but it's damn fun.

I have changed my play style quite a bit actually. I no longer level stupid skills that have nothing to do with the way i play my character so that i can properly get a +5 bonus to my stats.

Not me.

I still take 3 hours to clear a single dungeon by sneaking around every single corner, trying to individually stealth-kill everything in side.

I love sneaking around. Allows me to be a really nasty assassin and I have more time to examine the beauty in the game.

I have changed my play style from Oblivion a bit. Typically, I go for warriors that specialize in heavy armor with very little spellcasting. In Skyrim, I'm trying to focus on light armor, stealth with destruction magic. Plus I'm using more two-handed weapons than I usually do. In Oblivion I always carried a sword and shield.

Play style is the same, though I'm also trying a mage this time round which I never did in Oblivion. I love leveling now though. I always hated getting a +2 or a +3 in something I wanted to improve, but couldn't do much with because of the way I played that level.

Yeah, I changed alot. In Oblivion I barely used magic, but this time around I am focusing on destruction and 1h weapons, whereas in Oblivion I basically was a summoner+archer.

I have. In Oblivion I alternated between sword, bow, and destruction. I thought destruction was the only offensive school. Now I'm using things like conjured Atronachs and necromancy to support me while I use me bow. I also use Illusion for practical applications and for using spells like Frenzy so my enemies rip themselves apart. I am much happier with this playstyle.

I changed. In Oblivion I would just play whatever but in Skyrim I am sticking more to a specific character.
And I plan on playing more different characters this time around.

Great question. My first, and favorite, character in Oblivion was an Altmer mage. I enchanted every piece of armor she wore with Fortify Magika from Oblivion Gate sigil stones and had some killer custom stacked destruction spells. She used Alchemy to create Restore Magika potions and summoned Dremora Lords to help her kick ass in a fight.

In Skyrim, I decided to start with a Nord (it is Skyrim, after all) and concentrate more on having her use weapons as her primary combat skill and use her magic in a supportive role (restoration, alteration, and conjuration), especially since you can't create custom spells in Skyrim.

I can say both yes and no.

I've changed my playstyle from Oblivion and Morrowind. I have no changed my playstyle from every other game. I like to play mages. I can't do that and retain my sanity in Oblivion and Morrowind, always have to be an assassin.

I'm actually in a bit of the reverse. I mainly play as sword/shield guy but my last playthrough in OB was as a conjurer and I find myself working to get back into the rhythmn of combat. Although, a giant warhammer does ease the transition back to melee.

I tried everything in oblivion. However, stealth is what i used most in oblivion and also what I use in Skyrim.

Nope. Pure mage has been my staple since Morrowind.

I did play a stealthy archer type in Oblivion which was a lot of fun. But in Skyrim I'm playing a Two Handed Paladin, which is a lot of fun as well! ^^

With athletics and acrobatics gone, I had to.

Although I still stick to the no magic rule.

Yes and no. In Oblivion, I tended to opt for being a Breton with a focus on stealth, falling back on the good ol' sword and board combat when necessary. Never used bows, and only relied on Destruction magic until I'd have Illusion and Mysticism leveled up, basically focusing on more support and restorative magics to supplement the stealth.

Still on my first character, a Breton, and started off much as I played Oblivion. Now, at level 28, I've been still focused on stealth, but now I'm relying on using bows to either eliminate my targets (I love how I can now effectively fire shots that distract the enemies from my position or otherwise draw them out from their positions, it's become a fantastic tactic for clearing out heavily defended positions), or otherwise soften them up enough to finish them off with Destruction magic, and I especially love being able to cast it from both hands like a boss. I barely use other schools, except for Restoration, though I'd like to get a detect life spell again (indispensable for stealth play).

Being a vampire is a little different, though. I don't feel so much like a god anymore, but I feel much more like a shadow. Combined with a high sneak skill, I'm able to literally sneak around IN FRONT of my enemies at times. I love shadowing them, and I love how the stealth system actually works sensibly. In Oblivion, being detected was pretty much the end of stealth altogether for that given encounter, unless you had an invisibility spell handy. In Skyrim, I can disappear around the corner and stay perfectly still, and sometimes in searching for me they'll come around the same corner, and be standing in front of me saying something like "YOU CAN'T HIDE FROM ME!!!" and just when I'm about to strike, thinking I've been found, he turns away to search behind some trees nearby.

It's become necessary for me to rely on stealth completely at my level now, though, because I've so far opted for the glass cannon approach and have not leveled up my health or stamina once. Just means I can't go toe-to-toe with a bear unless I soften them up enough with arrows from range.

I am loving this.

Damn right I did. I was a pure destruction mage in Oblivion. Destruction is rendered useless now, for reasons which have already been made evident on these forums.

I went orc warrior for quite a bit, but old habits die hard, as now he is becoming a fairly capable assassin. However, one thing that has never changed for me is making stuff, so that has not changed at all for me.
