Yes and no. In Oblivion, I tended to opt for being a Breton with a focus on stealth, falling back on the good ol' sword and board combat when necessary. Never used bows, and only relied on Destruction magic until I'd have Illusion and Mysticism leveled up, basically focusing on more support and restorative magics to supplement the stealth.
Still on my first character, a Breton, and started off much as I played Oblivion. Now, at level 28, I've been still focused on stealth, but now I'm relying on using bows to either eliminate my targets (I love how I can now effectively fire shots that distract the enemies from my position or otherwise draw them out from their positions, it's become a fantastic tactic for clearing out heavily defended positions), or otherwise soften them up enough to finish them off with Destruction magic, and I especially love being able to cast it from both hands like a boss. I barely use other schools, except for Restoration, though I'd like to get a detect life spell again (indispensable for stealth play).
Being a vampire is a little different, though. I don't feel so much like a god anymore, but I feel much more like a shadow. Combined with a high sneak skill, I'm able to literally sneak around IN FRONT of my enemies at times. I love shadowing them, and I love how the stealth system actually works sensibly. In Oblivion, being detected was pretty much the end of stealth altogether for that given encounter, unless you had an invisibility spell handy. In Skyrim, I can disappear around the corner and stay perfectly still, and sometimes in searching for me they'll come around the same corner, and be standing in front of me saying something like "YOU CAN'T HIDE FROM ME!!!" and just when I'm about to strike, thinking I've been found, he turns away to search behind some trees nearby.
It's become necessary for me to rely on stealth completely at my level now, though, because I've so far opted for the glass cannon approach and have not leveled up my health or stamina once. Just means I can't go toe-to-toe with a bear unless I soften them up enough with arrows from range.
I am loving this.
