I didnt tag speech or put points in it

Post » Tue Dec 07, 2010 8:59 am

As the title says I never added points into speech, does any one else feel as if they are missing out on a lot of content/dialogue they would otherwise have access to? I understand that its the point of the thing, but it seems to me that there have been a lot more chances to use it so far in New Vegas as opposed to FO3.

Any on feel the same way? My second playthrough will most likely have it as a tag skill.

Eh, you chose to do it, so you can't really expect to not miss out. I always tag Lockpick, Science or Repair, and Speech.

It does seem like their are much more speech options in FNV than their were in FO3. Personally I think this is great, as every skill should be valuable.

Speech is far more important in this game than it was in FO3 (and there's also a fair amount of use of barter in speech checks too).

When I realised this a few hours into my first playthrough I started again with a new character.

There are far and away more dialog options based on skills in NV. Not having them is fine, having them is fine. The most useful seem to be Speech and Barter, of which I have both, but on my next trip through I'll have neither so it'll be different.

The one I often find I miss having is Medicine for some conversations.

Agreed in Fallout 3 I never tagged speech, but I did the same as you after a few hours playing New Vegas I decided to create a new character with speech tagged.

I always tag speech with my first character in every fallout game, from Fallout 1 through NV.

Yea like stated before, since I did feel like I was missing content I will definitely pick speech as a tag skill next time around. As for medicine I have ran into 4-5 options in dialogue thus far, which is more than i expected.

I always tag speech, because I feel a bit like a Jedi when I use it. I want there to be a dialog choice of: "These aren't the droids we're looking for" whenever ED-E is with me.

Well to be honest 'tag' skills aren't anything special at all. They're just +15. It used to be tagged skills meant you got more points in that skill per level. Now though it's just a free +15. IMO it's not worth a perk, but that's open for people to decide.

Yea I knew this but I am at the point now where I dont really need it or have missed most of the speech options already. So I learned my lesson and will just have to check out the other options in my next play through

I've had speech as pretty high on all games where there is such an option (in Fallout 3, persuasion in Dragon Age: Origins etc)
What can I say, it just makes more sense to talk myself out of a dangerous situation than waste bullets.

Question: Does low speech make you actually have less dialog APPEAR to choose from, or just that you can not select the dialog options that show "[SPEECH XX/YY]" ????

I know in some games, low speech would actually prevent some dialog trees from even appearing - which I think is actually a better game mechanic

The options appear they just tell you the speech requirement and your current skill level,

I went ahead and just made all my skills and SPECIAL stats 100 and 10. And I put the difficulty on hardcoe, Very hard to counteract the change. I just wanted to make sure I get everything I can out of the speech and dialogue in New Vegas. (I'm on the Xbox 360 BTW)

I love how they made certain skills way more important now then they where in Fallout 3. Barter almost felt useless and it is a really important skill for me now.

Game's made by Obsidian meaning there's a lot of story in NV and lots and lots of dialogue option. But the beauty of the game is that you don't need speech to play it... My first character is all about speed and talking but my second is a lonely sniper with no social skills, so itle be a different playthrough all together.

Don't worry if you don't have speech.. itle still make for an interesting story

I tagged speech and boosted it as my main skill.
I have 0 regrets. I've found it incredibly helpful so far. In fact, I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to live without it in future playthroughs XD

If i would decide to not invest anything to speech, it would be because i would be planning on killing everyone in the wasteland. otherwise, it is very important to have it, and over that, it is important to have A LOT of it, because you will see a speech requirement in a lot of conversation options. so unless you are planning to kill everyone that gets in your sight, you might aswell have the right skill to interact with them.

Speech is almost invaluable in Nev Vegas. I didn't tag it at first but I'm slowly rising it: the more I play, the more I find ALL skills are useful in conversation.
