Difference between the Shrouded Gloves and Ancient Shrouded

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:42 am

I'm trying to figure out if there is a difference between the Shrouded Gloves and the Ancient Shrouded Gloves from the Dark Brotherhood.

Ancient Shrouded Gear Obtained from the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Locate_the_Assassin_of_Old quest.

The Ancient Shrouded Armor and Cowl have better stats then their normal counterparts, 100% poison resist instead of 50% and 35% more bow damage instead of 20% respectively.

The Boots seem to be the same, both affording the wearer 50% muffle.

I'm not so sure about the gloves though, as the verbiage in the descriptions is slightly different:

Shrouded Gloves - Backstab does double damage
Ancient Shrouded Gloves -Double sneak attack damage with one-handed weapons

Any thoughts?

I don't have the game in front of me but I could have sworn the ancient versions are much lighter.

Hmm, according to the wiki, you are correct, but it's only a difference of 1!

Ahh my bad - I meant the set in general. I'm using the boots from that set and I think it was a decent weight savings (percentage-wise).

No worries, it was still something I didn't catch until you mentioned it.

I'm not at my computer to verify, but what I'm hoping is that the ancient gloves allow for the x30 sneak attack modifier with all non-dagger one handed weapons instead of just the x12.

I do believe the ancient set is more effective in armor rating.
I think the hood is more effective with bows.
I think the cuirass may have more resistance to poison
gloves are same
boots are same

but all 4 pieces of the ancient set offer more protection than the normal set.

They do not. The 30x multiplier is a combination of the sneak perk, a dagger, and the gloves. the gloves submit a x2 multiplier. the base 15x is from the sneak perk.

I can confirm from using the Creation Kit that the gloves share the same enchant and magic effect, they just have different descriptions for some reason. The Worn Shrouded Gloves even have a description about double damage, even though that version comes unenchanted.

I tried enchanting the Worn Shrouded Gloves.. and it worked.. though it still says the 2x damage and doesn't tell you what you've enchanted to them.

I just need to see if the 2x damage is actually applied to them or not.. if so, with Extra Effect, that could be 3 deadly enchantments on one piece. uber lulz

The double sneak damage is one of the most awesome enchantments in the game, not much the ancient set could do to improve on it

I don't think you can improve the Ancient set via Smithing.

There are also the shrouded hand wraps. They also come with the backstab enchantment but qualify as clothing. Thus no smithing

Yeah, Astrid's set svcks that way (Jester's/Cicero's too) because I like the bonuses better, but I can't mix and match with the Light Armor perks. :P

You forgot to mention that one of the other differences between the regular Shrouded Cowl and the Ancient Shrouded Cowl is that the regular Shrouded Cowl actually shows up when equipped by Argonian characters, while the Ancient Shrouded Cowl is invisible on Argonians (it's the same way with the Worn Shrouded Cowl as well).

Anyway, it appears the gloves do the exact same thing, just different descriptions. The Ancient Shrouded Gloves also have a better armor rating.
