A Different Book Bug

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 3:26 am

Ok. So I have seen lots of issues related to books on these forums and maybe this could be gathered together with them but I'd like to know if anyone is having the same issue as me or has even *crosses fingers* fixed it.

At the moment although I can pick up books that are both lying around and those in containers whenever I go to read them they have no text on them. I just get blank page after blank page.

If anyone has any info please let me know.

Thanks,

Sacrimantius

I'm having the same issue. I bought the house in Whiterun and upgraded the house to max. When i put my books and notes/letters in the bookshelves i could not read most of them or most of the text was missing.
Problem still occurs even if i put the books/letters in my inventory and read them from there.

This is a crucial bug to me since some of the notes are quest related and i have no way to read them properly.

I'm having much the same issue. ALL of my books are entirely blank, from the moment the game started. If it's paper and had something written on it, it's just not there. I'm brute forcing my way through as many quests as I can like this, but it's rather frustrating to say the least.

Ok so I managed to get my pages displaying. I'm not sure how but I did download the Beta Drivers for my nvidea card. It's prob worth trying that I guess. I was initially against downloading them seeing as they are Beta but meh it seems to have worked for me. Hope you guys manage to figure out your issues.

So far I have not seen any text in any notes, papers or books. It's dulling an otherwise incredible game experience.

Running Win 7 on an Alienware Aurora R3, i7 Quad, 16GB RAM with a GeForce GTX580 (All game settings at max).

Anyone have any suggestions on how to correct this... besides waiting for a patch?

Other than the text thing, the game has been beyond my wildest expectations. This is the reason I bought a gaming system.

I am also having problems with books. Every single book, note or letter I get are completely blank. I have Nvidia GTX 550 Ti graphics card. I downloaded the beta driver update but it hasn't worked for me, all the books are still blank to me.

I went to the nvidea site and got the latest drivers (the release version). I can read text now... of course I have to completely exit out of my inventory to switch from one document to another... otherwise the same one is shown over and over.

Still, it's a big improvement.

Okay. With that new bit of info, this sounds like some form of caching problem.

Just to keep everyone else updated I discovered what was causing the issue for me.

The text that you see on books is rendered via a DirectX overlay so first the book is rendered then then the texture applied then after all of this words are overlayed onto the page. In my case I use Teamspeak a lot to talk to friends and use an in game overlay that you guessed it also uses DirectX. It appears this overlay was preventing the games overlay from occurring. I would suggest anyone encountering this issue check their own set-up to make sure some similar program is doing the same thing.

YES! This was the problem! I just turned off teamspeak as I had the overlay running, and as soon as I looked at the books I could see the text again :) Thankyou!

Time to catch up on my reading...

Well I was wrong. The driver had nothing to do with it. I had teampseak on too. After reboot I didnt turn teamspeak back up. Without realizing it was teamspeak the prob. I thought by installing the driver and rebooting had fixed it. But I just saw you guys talk about teamspeak so today when I first logged on I open teamspeak like usual go ingame and could'nt read books again. I was like WHAT????? noooooooooooooo . Came back here to see some of you figured out it was teampskeak. So I then tested it. If I log on teampseak before going in game I can't read books. If I log ingame only I can read them. If I log ingame then log on teampseak can't read em anymore and if that happens I always have to restart the game without teampseak to be able to read. So teampseak is 100% it. You guys rock thanks I would have never in a million years thought of that.
