So, I went around my room packing what I could and leaving out what I didn't want.. after sealing my boxes and labeling them, I started moving them into a truck my dad rented and then the time came to pack the furniture so I had to get my computer all packed up and ready. Not long ago, it had suffered a system error and couldn't get Windows to boot up when I had restarted it one day after looking at a thread (the one in question has since been buried) trying to get youtube to work. I had fixed the problem before packing it up, but there had been no time to gather up all my stuff after I had to reinstall Windows.. we hadn't been doing much else up to the point of leaving Texas except gathering other things to have at the front of the truck. As with last year, my mom wasn't too happy that my dad was leaving and this time I was going with him (my brother had come back down after helping him move).. and then the time came for us to be off, heading through Northern Texas (the plains are at spooky looking place a night, and my dad pulled over so we could nap in the truck), part of Oklahoma, then through Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. We left at 12:00 midnight on Sunday, so we were able to make it through most of the trip on that day before staying at a motel to finish it later.. the rest of the trip only took us about 8 hours before arriving at our destination. The truck that we were in was fairly big, so for the most part the trip was safe because people stayed a little out of our way and we were also on I70, which is a major truck route in the US.. so once we were on that, the trip didn't take us too much longer.
Once we were at our destination, we had to figure out a way to get the big truck into a small parking lot because the entrance wasn't big enough .. but my dad is one that tends to bend things a little to make them easier, so I had to direct him in getting into the lot, and eventually we got it in there. From there, we got what we needed and headed up to his apartment and unpacked what we brought up.. my dad looked at a paper that the apartment owners dropped off saying his time was almost up at the place and he was thinking of another place to live afterward and when I got my computer up and running, the same error I had fixed before packing it came back as well. What ended up happening is one of the hard drives was shaken out of place and it screwed everything else up, and only last night did we have time to fix it.. I ended up unplugging all but one hard drive, brought up the Windows install and deleted the partitions that came up and created a new one so I could re-install it. Once that was done, I simply plugged the others in again and they started showing up to my relief with my stuff still intact.. so now I know how to deal with that kind of problem if it happens again. Around the same time, my dad found out that the apartment owners had him mixed up with someone else so we don't have to worry about packing up so soon after getting here.
Overall, it's been a somewhat difficult time but now things are getting better.. I'm also hoping to have a little more peace in my dads apartment. To my surprise, I found out that the house that we have our eyes on could actually be seen from one of the apartment windows though you can only see the roof.. it's after the rest of the moving that is worrying me though. I'm looking forward to what lies ahead, but at the same time I'm really nervous.. in the end though, I'm hoping I can finally get to where I want to be although even the packing back in Texas isn't done yet and the house still needs to be sold.
Anyone else have any similar stories to share about moving forward?
