Disable dragons? (contains spoilers)

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:03 pm

Alright. I finished the main quest and have moved on to the faction quests, but it it really annoying, and time consuming, to get anything done with dragons constantly pestering you. It seems they attack me 2-3 times whenever I walk a short distance outside. They aren't even difficult anymore, just annoyances. Does it even make sense for them to be aggressive? Shouldn't they be peaceful now? Anyway, I have enough dragon souls for every shout in the game already. It wouldn't be as bad if souls had other uses (Like lowering shout cooldowns. That makes sense, all souls are is knowledge, right?) but I'm not sure they do (if they do I haven't come across it yet). I want dragons gone. NOW!

I don't really see it as a spoiler, its not like he gave away the ending. I haven't got anywhere near the end of the MQ and this doesn't really give anything away to me. We always knew there would be dragon encounters after the MQ, I'm pretty sure Todd/someone had discussed it before the release.

Calm down. Breathe. We'll get through this! ;)

The only possible "spoiler" is that he talks about dragons, which has been talked about everywhere by everyone since the game was announced. Skyrim has dragons. No real surprise there.

And actually, if we're going to get this technical, almost every single mod on the forums would have to have "spoiler" in the title because it's modding something in the game and has to describe what it's modding... and thus, it's telling us about stuff in the game! :P

I haven't encountered anything that would make me believe they should no longer be aggressive, but maybe I'm not where you're at yet. Dunno. I do agree (and knew this was gonna happen) that dragons are far too common, and are drastically inferior to what we would expect dragons to be from most other lore. There are likely to be several mods before long addressing both their physical attributes and their frequency of appearance.

Huh? You see dragons within your first couple of minutes in the game. :)

Besides, like I said, you can pretty much guarantee you are going to see at least a few spoilers in this forum because we're talking about changes to the game, and we have to talk about what's being changed in order to communicate the point of the mod.

What if instead of them disappearing...

SPOILERS

once you defeat alduin, the number of dragons is set at a static number, and you can count down the number of dragons left to kill. Once you kill them all, you get a reward (Dragonslayer Sword, anyone?)

END SPOILERS

It would be nice if the number became finite after the MQ. however:
Spoiler
There is already a Dragonbane sword in the game

The spoiler isnt that there is a dragon. The spoiler is that they are after the main quest. Nobody knew that, and Todd certainly never said anything. Them appearing and the way the OP worded it implies some kind of resolution with the dragons that I did not want to know at all.

I mean...you have to understand, Elder Scrolls is the only happiness I got in my life and it only comes every five years!! (not really but what the hey)

I haven't seen the end of the Main Quest, but there is little reason to make the number of dragon finite. All of Tamriel should have dragons just like Skyrim, and when they hear about their people being slaughtered in large numbers by some dragon slayer they will probably go out of their way to stop the dragon slayer.

Also there is no reason two dragons couldn't get together and make little dragons.

Why is this even considered a spoiler, we were told Dragons were infinite and continue to appear before the game came out no?

Okay even if they come from other places, they are still finite. :P If you don't make them finite, it means they are infinite. And that's rather silly. ;)

And even if they were, it wouldn't be an instantaneous thing.

I can't find the exact interview or video or whatever it was but this:

http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/lojen/will_we_be_able_to_hunt_dragons_after_the_main/

Was 22 days ago (therefore before Skyrim was released) and people are discussing how there will be dragons after the MQ, some also saying that it was confirmed.

Perhaps you didn't know but I'm 95% sure it was confirmed by Todd/someone.

There are a few globals for dragons within the console, mainly, MQ106TurnOffRandomDragons, and EnableDragons.

I haven't completed the main quest yet, and I didn't really consider this a spoiler, just to join in on that little tidbit

In any case, if I were up to actually going and making a new char, and getting to the point where dragons are randomly spawning, I would, just to verify if any of these worked.

Note: MQ in the first variable seems apparent to be related to the main quest, and it's set to 0, though, however, even now, with random dragons, EnableDragons is 0.
