Disappointed in the brotherhood of steel! *spoilers*

Post » Mon Dec 27, 2010 10:42 am

I've yet to complete the other factions quest lines but I was so disappointed in the Brotherhood of Steel Quest line! I didn't expect for it to have as much of an impact / role as they did in Fallout 3, but I expected a bit more! I was hoping that I would be able to feel like I really am part of the Brotherhood of Steel, but this is not so! Instead, I feel like just an errand boy with benefits!

When you complete the quest line you gain the ability to wear power armor, access to their store, the title " paladin ", and free energy weapon ammo when you walk in.

Here's what I think Obsidian should have added:

  • More Quests
  • Random Quests ( you walk in and occasionally receive a quest to kill certain creatures, or to help out a team of BOS Paladins on their battles )
  • Ability to pull out squads of Brotherhood of Steel Paladins to aid in your adventures ( With limits of course )
  • Ability to achieve a higher rank than that of Paladin if you stick with them

Now, as I've said I haven't completed the other factions quest lines but I doubt they actually make you FEEL like you're one of them. The brotherhood of steel instead make you feel like an errand boy with benefits. Although, if you know of a faction that actually gives a sense of belonging then let me know!

But that is exactly what you are. :)

Spoiler

In fact >.<; that is exactly what you are for almost all the factions except NCR.

At least the NCR troops call you a Hero and treat you like a celebrity :(

Never gone the Legion Route, so not sure how you are treated if you have high fame with them.

What else do you get for completing their questline?

Brother hood of Steel?

You get Power Armor Training, and Top End Energy Weapons (like Gauss Rifle) in their stores.

If you finished the first Quest Series you will get free energy ammo ever so often (not sure the period, but it really adds up) in the Box next to the entrance

Aside from that nothing. I have never ran into a BOS patron in the Wilderness, and only meet them during sand storms outside the bunker.

But should the patrol be out and about, they should come to your aid.

No I know about brotherhood of steel, like I've said I completed their questline. I meant the NCR.

They should've added quests where you had to wipe out the Boomers for their cache of pre-war munitions, the NCR stationed at Helios for its pre-war munitions, and House for his pre-war munitions.
As it stands, the BoS in the Mojave doesn't do much of anything except hide in their bunker, which allows people who've only played FO3 to think that they're a bunch of "good guys".

If you did Hardin's mutiny, one of his quest line is for you to rob Silver Spring (I think thats the name) because he wanted the weapons there. It wasn't any high ideal reason, it is robbery pure and simple.

McNarma(sp) is actually a good guy. Though one with broken nerves. So the Brotherhood under his command is "good."

The moment Hardin' took over however, they turn pretty bad :)

The Brotherhood questline was already incredibly long. Any more and they'd probably end up being a major faction rather than a minor one.

  • Ability to pull out squads of Brotherhood of Steel Paladins to aid in your adventures ( With limits of course )

  • You can actually do that with the NCR path, sorta. :P

  • Ability to achieve a higher rank than that of Paladin if you stick with them

  • There is no higher rank than Paladin. Except head/senior paladin, which is only granted based on seniority.

Now, as I've said I haven't completed the other factions quest lines but I doubt they actually make you FEEL like you're one of them. Yes Man's faction.

As it stands, the BoS in the Mojave doesn't do much of anything except hide in their bunker, which allows people who've only played FO3 to think that they're a bunch of "good guys".

Well, the first introduction to them involves them slapping an exploding dog collar on you, so it's hard to consider them good. Unless you go with Veronica, in which case she talks a lot about how the Brotherhood doesn't believe in helping people. :P

Yea it would be even better if the BoH actually competed with the Legion and NCR instead of hiding in a bunker from them.

Well look on the bright-side, the BOS isn't an association of mutant slaying, boy scouts in shining white power armor.

in game it says they wander the wasteland but I havn't run into them at all. I bet they only have 1 patrol goin around. FO3's wasteland felt much more alive than this one... I'm thinkin there will be a DLC involving the brotherhood though

One time I saw a group of I think four of them. I didn't get to see what kind of weapons they had or their exact names or anything but I saw them. I then went into Hidden Valley and I heard several comments while walking around like " Our patrols are out and going now! ". But I guess there's really no significance.

Well they are incredibly small compared to almost every faction and if you are there only ally if you even choose to help them. You seem to forget they were beat down by the NCR and that's the whole reason they went into hiding. I would be surprised if they were roaming the wasteland

    Sterlin,

    Are you joking?

In FO3 you could do NOTHING with the BoS. At least in this one you get quests and can belong to the bunker and receive training/power armor as one of them....

FO3 was anemic in terms of any depth - it was just a big playground.

FONV has given every faction quests, relationships, and impact. Yeesh.

They tried that at Helios 1 and got utterly creamed by the NCR.

This is also the reason why they don't have patrols except under cover of darkness. Indeed, get within shooting distance of an NCR position, any NCR position, while wearing a suit of Brotherhood T-51b. You'll see right quick why the Brotherhood hides.
